GREEN BAY \u2013 The Packers have signed veteran receiver\/returner Skyy Moore<\/a> as a free agent.<\/p>\n

Here are five things to know about Green Bay’s new addition:<\/p>\n

He was one of the top return men in the league last year.<\/p>\n

Playing for the 49ers in 2025 after being traded by the Chiefs last summer, Moore ranked sixth in the NFL on kickoff returns with a 27.5-yard average on 33 returns, and he ranked seventh on punt returns with an 11.6-yard average on 25 returns.<\/p>\n

He also had a breakaway return in each category, going 98 yards on a kickoff and 66 yards on a punt, though strangely, neither of those long ones went for a touchdown.<\/p>\n

This is the second straight year the Packers have added a return specialist and reserve receiver to the roster as a free agent, but Kansas City’s Mecole Hardman didn’t make the team coming out of training camp last summer.<\/p>\n

He was originally a second-round draft pick.<\/p>\n

Kansas City drafted Moore (5-10, 195) in the second round in 2022 with the No. 54 overall pick out of Western Michigan. As a rotational receiver his first two years, he caught 43 passes for 494 yards and one TD in regular-season action. His first NFL score actually came on a TD pass in the Super Bowl against the Eagles at the end of his rookie year.<\/p>\n

Moore missed the majority of the 2024 season due to a core muscle injury and did not catch a pass in six games.<\/p>\n

With San Francisco last year, he caught five passes for 87 yards but was focused mostly on returns, which he hadn’t done since his rookie year in Kansas City after only a handful of return attempts in college.<\/p>\n

He didn’t even play receiver until he got to college.<\/p>\n

At Shady Side Academy in the Pittsburgh area, Moore played quarterback and cornerback, and was a teammate of longtime Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin’s son.<\/p>\n

Western Michigan offered Moore a scholarship without a position set in stone, but it was thought he’d play corner. He wound up converting to wide receiver, and he was named first-team All-Mid-American Conference with 51 receptions for 802 yards and three scores as a freshman, his first year playing the position.<\/p>\n

He effectively replaced one of his new Green Bay teammates at Western Michigan.<\/p>\n

Western Michigan’s leading receiver the year before Moore’s arrival was Jayden Reed<\/a>, who then transferred to Michigan State. The Packers drafted Reed in the second round in 2023.<\/p>\n

Moore followed up his big freshman season with an even bigger one as a junior in 2021, catching 95 passes for 1,292 yards and nine scores. Then he clocked a 4.41-second time in the 40-yard dash at the scouting combine, solidifying his high draft status.<\/p>\n

His mother likes the letter Y.<\/p>\n

Moore has said the two Y’s in his first name are just the result of his mother “trying to be creative,” along with her affinity for the letter Y.
