There\u2019s been a lot of frustration and confusion about the start to Detroit Lions free agency. So on Friday morning, Erik Schlitt and I tried to make sense of Detroit\u2019s very measured and patient approach.<\/p>\n
Most of the anxiety is understandably coming from the defensive depth chart. This week alone, the Lions have said goodbye to Roy Lopez, Al-Quadin Muhammad, Tyrus Wheat, Alex Anzalone, Grant Stuard and Amik Robertson. Their additions are a pair of defensive backs that many hadn\u2019t even heard of: Christian Izien and Roger McCreary.<\/p>\n
So on this week\u2019s Mid Late-Week Mailbag, Erik and I offer our thoughts on the Lions tepid free agency thus far. We try to decipher their strategy of getting younger and cheaper, while also managing our current concern level. Are there enough talented players still out there? Will the Lions be willing to spend the necessary money to get a playmaker on defense\u2014ideally at defensive end? Are the Lions prioritizing the right positions on defense?<\/p>\n
