{"id":812141,"date":"2026-03-14T16:19:18","date_gmt":"2026-03-14T16:19:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/812141\/"},"modified":"2026-03-14T16:19:18","modified_gmt":"2026-03-14T16:19:18","slug":"a-look-back-at-every-seventh-round-draft-pick-in-chiefs-history-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/812141\/","title":{"rendered":"A Look Back at Every Seventh-Round Draft Pick in Chiefs History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A system called the &#8220;common draft&#8221; was implemented for the AFL and NFL in 1967, creating a joint draft between the two leagues while establishing the precursor for what has become the marquee event of the offseason.<\/p>\n<p>The two leagues merged in 1970, and the rest is history.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next several weeks leading up to the 2026 NFL Draft, we&#8217;re going to take a look back at who the Kansas City Chiefs have selected in each round since the event&#8217;s beginnings 59 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s begin with the seventh round, where Kansas City does not currently own a selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n<p>As of now, these are the selections Kansas City currently possesses this year:<\/p>\n<p>Round 1: No. 29 overall (via Los Angeles)<\/p>\n<p>Round 5: No. 169 overall (via Los Angeles)<\/p>\n<p>Round 5: No. 176 overall (Compensatory)<\/p>\n<p>Round 6: No. 210 overall (via Los Angeles)<\/p>\n<p>And here&#8217;s a look at who the Chiefs have drafted in the seventh round since 1967:<\/p>\n<p>2025 | Pick No. 228 | Brashard Smith | RB | SMU<\/p>\n<p>2024 | Pick No. 248 | C.J. Only Philadelphia Eagles&#8217; tailback Johnny Johnson (926 in 1990) tallied more during his rookie campaign.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Cornerback Jaylen Watson appeared in 53 games (29 starts) during his four years in Kansas City.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; 2019 seventh-round pick Nick Allegretti appeared in 74 games (13 starts) for the Chiefs during his five-year tenure with Kansas City from 2019-23. Notably, Allegretti stepped in for Joe Thuney at left guard during the AFC Championship Game and Super Bowl LVIII in the Chiefs march to a championship in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The Chiefs have selected one future Pro Bowler in the seventh round since 1967: defensive back Kevin Ross, who was drafted in 1984. Ross made the Pro Bowl in 1989 and 1990. He was inducted into the Chiefs Hall of Fame in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Kevin Ross wore a Chiefs&#8217; uniform in the most games of any seventh-round pick in franchise history, taking the field 156 times.
