Cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles is returning to the Seattle Seahawks on a one-year deal, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reported<\/a> on social media Saturday.<\/p>\n

Jean-Charles, 27, spent last season on Seattle\u2019s practice squad and did not appear in a regular season or playoff game. He originally signed with the team as unrestricted free agent last March before being released in late August and signed back to the practice squad a day later.<\/p>\n

The Appalachian State product provides some depth to Seattle\u2019s cornerback group in 2026 following Riq Woolen\u2019s free agency departure to the Philadelphia Eagles.<\/p>\n

A fifth-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2021, Jean-Charles has appeared in 37 games as a pro. He has 29 tackles, two passes defended and an interception.<\/p>\n

Most of Jean-Charles\u2019 playing time has come on special teams, where he\u2019s logged 451 snaps during his career. He received his most work on defense when he made two starts for the New Orleans Saints in 2024, which included his first career interception in his first start during Week 9 against Carolina. The interception was one for the highlight reels, as he ripped a pass out of Panthers first-round pick Xavier Legette\u2019s hands to turn a potential first-down reception into a takeaway.<\/p>\n

The 5-foot-10, 184-pound defensive back was a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award (nation\u2019s top defender) and Jim Thorpe Award (nation\u2019s top defensive back) during his final college season in 2020. He led the country with 16 pass breakups and was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year by Pro Football Focus.<\/p>\n
