{"id":812631,"date":"2026-03-14T22:10:16","date_gmt":"2026-03-14T22:10:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/812631\/"},"modified":"2026-03-14T22:10:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-14T22:10:16","slug":"former-49ers-qb-trey-lance-signs-back-with-chargers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/812631\/","title":{"rendered":"Former 49ers QB Trey Lance signs back with Chargers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>March 14, 2026, 2:22 p.m. PT<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The <a href=\"\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">San Francisco 49ers<\/a> are pretty happy with their quarterback situation, with Brock Purdy as the starter and Mac Jones as one of the top backups in the league sitting behind him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">However, they lucked into this situation after trading three first-round picks and a third-round pick to the Miami Dolphins in 2021 to take North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance, who never panned out in San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">On Saturday, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AdamSchefter\/status\/2032909381990285493?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">ESPN&#8217;s Adam Schefter reported<\/a> that Lance has re-signed with the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/nfl\/teams\/los-angeles-chargers\/357\" data-autotag=\"a419627d-6dfd-46c4-8ebe-6ca8a0506ea7\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Los Angeles Chargers<\/a> on a one-year deal for the 2026 season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Lance, 25, spent two seasons with the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/nfl\/teams\/san-francisco-49ers\/359\" data-autotag=\"3d4aeb7f-6493-4c2a-8803-2439e4b64ee4\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">49ers<\/a>, but injuries limited him to just eight games played and four starts. He led the team to a 2-2 record while completing just 54.9% of his passes for 797 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">San Francisco traded Lance to the Dallas Cowboys for a fourth-round pick (eventually used on Malik Mustapha) in 2023.
