Emeka Egbuka<\/p>\n

Knowing what to believe \u2014 or what is real \u2014 on social media has never been murkier.<\/p>\n

The latest example involves Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka.<\/p>\n

The 2025 first-round pick out of Ohio State said this week that the X account @EgbukaEmeka \u2014 which the Bucs\u2019 social-media team tagged in dozens of posts throughout his rookie NFL season \u2014 does not belong to him.<\/p>\n

The clarifications from both the team and\u00a0player came immediately after the account had posted Wednesday: \u201cIs CTE even real?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFor anyone wondering, I haven\u2019t had twitter since high school. That account on X isn\u2019t me,\u201d Egbuka wrote on Instagram, along with a laughing emoji.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe below account is neither owned nor operated by Emeka Egbuka. It is in no way affiliated with Emeka or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,\u201d the team added on its official X account.<\/p>\n

Still, according to Front Office Sports<\/a>, the team\u2019s own social media account had tagged the presumed Egbuka account \u2014 which has since been suspended by X \u2014 more than 60 times since he was drafted last year, including Happy Birthday wishes.<\/p>\n

Soon after Twitter was sold and rebranded as X, the platform made it available for any user to have their account verified with a checkmark \u2014 thereby making it more difficult to determine which accounts are real or fake.<\/p>\n
