The Los Angeles Chargers<\/a> like their backup plan.<\/p>\n

Trey Lance<\/a> agreed to terms on a deal that will keep him in L.A., the Chargers<\/a> announced on Saturday, March 14. It is a one-year deal worth up to $6.75 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Lance came into the league with big expectations when he was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers<\/a> with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He has bounced around the league a bit in the years since, making a stop with the Dallas Cowboys<\/a> and now the Chargers.<\/p>\n

Lance seemingly has found a home with the Chargers as the backup to Justin Herbert<\/a>. Now the quarterback is back in the fold for 2026.<\/p>\n

Despite being a high draft pick, Lance has never broken through at the professional level. He has completed 54% of passes and thrown five touchdowns to five interceptions.<\/p>\n

Lance will maintain his hold on the backup job as the offseason continues. There’s always a chance that the quarterback could lose his spot to an incoming rookie or another signing, if the Chargers elect to make one.<\/p>\n

Regardless, no quarterback on L.A.’s roster should expect to play anytime soon. Injuries are the only thing that would take the top spot on the depth chart away from Herbert.<\/p>\n
