There’s a new deal in place for the Houston Texans<\/a>‘ latest offensive weapon entering 2026.<\/p>\n

According to KRPC 2 Sports’ Aaron Wilson<\/a>, the Texans<\/a> and former Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery<\/a> have agreed to a revised contract worth $16..5 million<\/a> over the next two seasons on a deal that includes a $6.5 million signing bonus. According to Wilson, the contract, which runs through 2027, has a $1.5 million base salary this year that is fully guaranteed and a payout in Year 1 up to $8.5 million.<\/p>\n

Montgomery, who plans to be the Texans’ new focal back in place of Pro Bowler and recently released Joe Mixon,<\/a> will have a $7.5 million salary with $2 million of it guaranteed. Houston made the trade official on Thursday morning, giving up two draft picks and offensive lineman Juice Scruggs in the process.<\/p>\n

\u201cHouston was definitely the place that I wanted to go,\u201d Montgomery said Friday during a virtual press conference with the local media in Houston. \u201cI was in Detroit, a very successful organization, and I practiced against Houston a couple of times and they\u2019ve always been the hardest team to practice against.<\/p>\n

“I want to come in and show these guys that I could hang with the big dawgs.\u201d<\/p>\n

An eight-year veteran, Montgomery plans to be the bellcow back in Houston as part of a 1-2 punch with rookie Woody Marks. Over his past three seasons with the Lions, he served as the power to Jahymr Gibbs’ speed, thus leading to the nicknames of “Sonic and Knuckles” by the fans at Ford Field.<\/p>\n

Yes, Montgomery’s career has been best identified for his brute strength and physical play style to pick up the hard yards, but he believes there is more to his game that remains untapped.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs much as them saying I\u2019m a power back\u00a0\u2014 I hear that a lot\u00a0\u2014 but I can do a lot of stuff that power backs don\u2019t do,\u201d Montgomery said. \u201cI\u2019m not going to talk too much about it. I\u2019m more of a show than a tell kind of guy.\u00a0<\/p>\n
