Pittsburgh Steelers captain Cam Heyward<\/a> has been re-elected to serve on the NFLPA executive committee, the union announced on Sunday.<\/a><\/p>\n

Heyward was first elected to the executive committee<\/a> on a two-year term in 2024. He was re-elected this year to serve a one-year term.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jalen Reeves-Maybin was re-elected as the NFLPA president, with Tanoh Kpassagnon the treasurer. Jonathan Greenard, Thomas Morstead and Harrison Phillips will serve three-year terms, Case Keenum, Zaire Franklin and Brandon McManus will serve two-year terms and Heyward, Oren Burks and Ted Karras will serve one year-terms.<\/p>\n

The union is expected to select a new executive director this offseason. While players must be active in the NFL to serve on the executive committee, the executive director is expected to be the long-term leader of the union.<\/p>\n

Former executive director Lloyd Howell and chief strategy officer JC Tretter resigned last July under fire over a part-time job with potentially conflicting interests for Howell and allegations of inappropriate usage of union funds.<\/a><\/p>\n

The process that selected Howell was also criticized, with some players unaware he had previous sexual assault allegations before he was hired.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe players especially have been working extremely hard to remedy the situation and move forward so we can have a union that we can thrive through chaos,\u201d Heyward said last summer.<\/a><\/p>\n

Heyward said integrity and transparency will be key in selecting a new leader \u2014 items that were not necessarily on the checklist the last time around.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomeone who can stay in charge and be in front of the group, demand the best for the players, integrity, transparency, but also to wait until a CBA to get stuff done,\u201d Heyward said. \u201cI\u2019m excited to see how we can take off from here because there\u2019s just been a lot of volatility there.\u201d<\/p>\n

The CBA between the NFL and NFLPA does not expire until March 2031, but the league would like to re-open discussions about expanding the schedule to 18 games, something that has been difficult as the union goes through a leadership transition.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have not had any formal discussions about it, and frankly, very little of any informal conversations,\u201d NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said<\/a> at Super Bowl LX<\/a>. \u201cIt is not a given that we will do that. It is not something we assume will happen. It is something we want to talk about with the union leadership. \u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cAs (the NFLPA) determines their priorities, we are doing the same at the ownership level so that when we get together, we can address these issues together.\u201d<\/p>\n
