In a recent interview with Ben Fischer of\u00a0Sports Business Journal, Packers president and CEO Ed Policy shared that he was considered about his franchise’s ability to compete moving forward. The Packers could be at a disadvantage, given that they are owned by the fans, while private equity money is being funneled into other teams.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you think about, any other team, they\u2019ve got deep-pocketed owners, most of them are worth significantly more than that, and they could sell less than 10% of their team, give up no controlling interest, and raise a heck of a lot more than that,\u201d Policy told Fischer.<\/a><\/p>\n Something that is on the table: a naming rights deal for Lambeau Field.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re soon to be the only stadium without naming rights,\u201d Policy said. \u201cThat\u2019s not a threshold we\u2019re looking to cross any time soon, but we might be a little more aggressive with some of the other entitlement inventory we just hadn\u2019t taken advantage of in the past, including things like training facility entitlements and the Titletown campus.\u201d<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Miller Stadium at Lambeau Field, or Lambeau Field presented by Amazon, is something that could be coming soon.<\/p>\n \u201cFinance and economics really don\u2019t play into our football decision-making right now, and it\u2019s my job to ensure that it never does,\u201d Policy told Fischer. \u201cGiven the pace that the expenses have accelerated over the past few years, if we find ourselves falling behind, it\u2019s going to be really hard to catch up. So, we have to keep ourselves in a position where we\u2019re not falling behind.\u201d<\/p>\n NFL fans already dreading potential change<\/p>\n “This is unspeakable. It\u2019s way too iconic to tamper with,” one fan added.<\/p>\n “Not selling the naming rights is part of what makes the Packers so unique in the NFL<\/a> and American sports,” one fan added.<\/p>\n “The quote says it’s not happening anytime soon but the idea of the Hutson Center, Hinkle and Nitschke Field losing their name was enough to kill my vibe when I read this yesterday.
