The Chicago Bears<\/a> turned a lot of heads this offseason when they decided to hand former Seattle Seahawks<\/a> safety Coby Bryant<\/a> a massive three-year, $40 million contract<\/a> at the start of free agency.<\/p>\n

Not because he\u2019s a bad player, but because there was a belief<\/a> that Chicago would re-sign Kevin Byard<\/a> and look to pair him up with a rookie safety. However, with the signings of guys like Bryant and linebacker Devin Bush,<\/a> general manager Ryan Poles made it clear he\u2019s looking to bring in guys who have some serious speed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted speed and explosiveness,\u201d Poles said.<\/a> \u201cGuys who are passionate about football. Leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why he chose to sign Bryant over Byard and Jaquan Brisker.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what makes this part of this difficult. You have certain plans; there\u2019s guys that you would like to have back and kind of seeing how the landscape set up and you do your research. When we watched Coby\u2019s tape he was a guy that got us excited. Because again, he played our style of ball, he played fast, he played physically. Those are the things that (Dennis Allen) is looking for, that we\u2019re looking for. We thought there was leadership there. He\u2019s young and we had to adapt to that and we had the opportunity to bring a really good player in and that\u2019s the decision that we made.\u201d<\/p>\n

With that, Bryant sent a message about joining the Bears.<\/p>\n

Bryant took to X to send his message<\/a> on joining the Bears.<\/p>\n

\u201cLooking forward to being a Chicago Bear! We building something special! Thank you God for it all!\u201d<\/p>\n

Bryant, 26, is one of the league\u2019s budding stars at safety, racking up 227 total tackles, two sacks, seven forced fumbles, and seven interceptions in four seasons with the Seahawks.<\/p>\n

According to NFL Next Gen Stats,<\/a> Bryant allowed the 2nd-lowest passer rating among safeties in 2025 (51.4, min. 25 targets in coverage), and his four interceptions were tied for the 4th-most at the position.<\/p>\n

He could end up being one of Poles\u2019 top free-agent signings since taking over as GM back in 2022.<\/p>\n

During his introductory press conference in Chicago, Bryant had an opportunity to share more of his thoughts<\/a> on joining the Bears.<\/p>\n

Regarding Caleb Williams<\/a> reaching out to him: \u201cI feel like that\u2019s special, the quarterback reaching out to a safety, even though in practice I\u2019m definitely going to try to get on him, for sure. Just him reaching out says a lot honestly.\u201d Bryant also knows how elite Williams truly is. \u201cHe\u2019s just scratching the surface. Year 3, high expectations, and I expect greatness from him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bryant also thought the Seahawks were going to host the Bears in the NFC title game. \u201cI was actually telling a couple guys and even my family, I honestly thought we were going to play the Bears in the NFC Championship. It didn\u2019t work out that way. But [their success] was a big reason why I came here. I\u2019ve seen the winning culture, the head coach and the coaching staff.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finally, Bryant believes defensive coordinator Dennis Allen will bring out the best in his game. \u201cI feel like he\u2019s definitely going to help me utilize my tools and go out there and be the best version of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Big things are in store for Coby Bryant as he continues to elevate his game with a new team.<\/p>\n
