The <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Chicago Bears\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/chicago-bears\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"194153\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago Bears<\/a> have quietly reshaped many parts of their roster and are looking ahead to taking another step forward in 2026.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"586\" data-end=\"933\">While general manager Ryan Poles has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/bears\/onsi\/news\/adam-schefter-chicago-bears-out-of-money-for-maxx-crosby-trad\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">not landed<\/a> the blockbuster addition many fans were hoping for yet, Chicago still managed to add several key pieces while maintaining financial flexibility. The moves have left analysts across the league debating which players and figures within the organization benefited the most and who may have taken a step back.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"935\" data-end=\"1057\"><a href=\"https:\/\/beargoggleson.com\/3-winners-and-2-losers-for-chicago-bears-after-the-first-wave-of-free-agency\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">According to Bears analyst Anthony Miller<\/a>, Poles deserves significant credit for how the team approached the opening week.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1059\" data-end=\"1221\">\u201cDespite spending limits, the Bears\u2019 general manager, Ryan Poles, managed to create some cap space while keeping key players and adding new talent,\u201d Miller wrote.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1059\" data-end=\"1221\">Chicago\u2019s strategy focused less on splashy signings and more on strengthening depth across multiple positions. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/48154394\/sources-bears-sign-ex-seahawks-db-coby-bryant-3-year-deal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Additions<\/a> like safety <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Coby Bryant\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/coby-bryant\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"194168\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Coby Bryant<\/a> and linebacker <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Devin Bush\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/devin-bush\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"194157\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Devin Bush<\/a>, along with the signing of offensive tackle <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Jedrick Wills\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/jedrick-wills\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"194164\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jedrick Wills<\/a> Jr., gave the roster several experienced contributors heading into the next phase of the offseason.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan Poles, Coby Bryant Among Early Bears Winners<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1602\" data-end=\"1671\">The biggest winner from the Bears\u2019 opening week may be Poles himself.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"78\" data-end=\"382\">Poles especially deserves credit after center <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/drew-dalman\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Drew Dalman\u2019s<\/a> unexpected retirement threw a wrinkle into the Bears\u2019 offseason plans. He quickly addressed the position by adding <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Garrett Bradbury\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/garrett-bradbury\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"194162\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Garrett Bradbury<\/a> from the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Patriots\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/new-england-patriots\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"194154\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Patriots<\/a> and bringing in Jedrick Wills to reinforce the offensive line.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1673\" data-end=\"1864\">Although Chicago was linked to major names like <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Maxx Crosby\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/maxx-crosby\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"194159\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maxx Crosby<\/a> and <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Trey Hendrickson\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/trey-hendrickson\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"194165\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trey Hendrickson<\/a> earlier in the offseason, Poles instead prioritized building depth while keeping long-term flexibility intact.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1866\" data-end=\"2008\">\u201cCoby Bryant and <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/devin-bush\/\" title=\"Devin Bush\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"194169\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Devin Bush<\/a> are upgrades at their positions, and Jedrick Wills Jr. might end up being the steal of free agency,\u201d Miller wrote.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2010\" data-end=\"2219\">Bryant, in particular, landed one of the most significant deals of the Bears\u2019 free-agent class. The safety agreed to a three-year contract worth $40 million, making him the team\u2019s highest-paid addition so far.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2010\" data-end=\"2219\">Bryant will have a massive opportunity to be a key piece of the Bears\u2019 defense going forward.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2221\" data-end=\"2456\">Meanwhile, offensive tackle <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Braxton Jones\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/braxton-jones\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"194158\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Braxton Jones<\/a> also emerged as an unexpected beneficiary of the free-agent market. Jones returned to Chicago on a one-year deal reportedly worth $10 million, positioning him to compete for a starting role again in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Bears Defensive Changes Create Uncertainty<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2511\" data-end=\"2631\">While several names emerged as winners, the Bears\u2019 defensive changes have created uncertainty elsewhere on the roster.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2511\" data-end=\"2631\">Linebacker <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"T.J. Edwards\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/t-j-edwards\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"194160\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">T.J. Edwards<\/a> was highlighted as one of the early losers following Chicago\u2019s decision to add Bush and re-sign depth linebacker <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/dmarco-jackson\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">D\u2019Marco Jackson<\/a>. The moves could potentially reduce Edwards\u2019 long-term security within the defense.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2871\" data-end=\"2954\">The Bears\u2019 secondary as a whole may also face the biggest challenge moving forward.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2956\" data-end=\"3267\">Chicago <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/48198755\/biggest-questions-facing-chicago-bears-free-agent-exodus\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lost several defensive backs<\/a> in a short period, including <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/kevin-byard\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kevin Byard<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/jaquan-brisker\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jaquan Brisker<\/a>, <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Nahshon Wright\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/nahshon-wright\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"194167\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nahshon Wright<\/a>, <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"C.J. Gardner-Johnson\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/c-j-gardner-johnson\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"194156\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">C.J. Gardner-Johnson<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/jonathan-owens\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jonathan Owens<\/a>.
