The stunning admission, initially reported by The Spun<\/a>, has left supporters fearing the end of one of the most famous names in sport.<\/p>\n

Lambeau Field has been the home of the Green Bay Packers<\/a> since 1957 and is widely considered the most iconic venue in the NFL<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But despite the franchise\u2019s rich history, financial pressures are beginning to mount.<\/p>\n

The Packers are the only community-owned team across America\u2019s four major sports leagues.<\/p>\n

That unique model, once a strength, is now creating challenges in a league dominated by billionaire owners.<\/p>\n

Packers president and CEO Ed Policy has hinted that selling naming rights could become a reality in the future.<\/p>\n

He admitted, \u201cIf you think about any other team, they\u2019ve got deep-pocketed owners, most of them are worth significantly more than that, and they could sell less than 10 per cent of their team, give up no controlling interest, and raise a heck of a lot more than that.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re soon to be the only stadium without naming rights. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not a threshold we\u2019re looking to cross any time soon, but we might be a little more aggressive with some of the other entitlement inventory we just hadn\u2019t taken advantage of in the past, including things like training facility entitlements and the Titletown campus.<\/p>\n

\u201cFinance and economics really don\u2019t play into our football<\/a> decision-making right now, and it\u2019s my job to ensure that it never does.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiven the pace that the expenses have accelerated over the past few years, if we find ourselves falling behind, it\u2019s going to be really hard to catch up. So, we have to keep ourselves in a position where we\u2019re not falling behind.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mere mention of changing Lambeau\u2019s name has sparked fury online.<\/p>\n

One fan wrote, \u201cWe MUST keep Lambeau Field. It\u2019s way too iconic to tamper with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another added, \u201cNot selling the naming rights is part of what makes the Packers so unique.\u201d<\/p>\n

They believe changing the name would do more harm than good.<\/p>\n

For now, Lambeau Field remains untouched.<\/p>\n

But even the suggestion of change has shown just how much it means to the Packers faithful.<\/p>\n
