After the initial free agency frenzy, the Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a> dropped in NFL.com’s<\/a> post-free agency power rankings.<\/p>\n Accounting for the additions and subtractions from each roster, Eric Edholm<\/a> put together his latest power rankings. Following the 2025 season, the Jaguars<\/a> came in at No. 9 in Edholm’s rankings. Now, they are No. 12 — dropping three spots.<\/p>\n “The Jags’ list of extremely-pressing needs isn’t long, but they did allow some notable players to walk in free agency, including\u00a0Devin Lloyd<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Greg Newsome II<\/a>\u00a0on defense and\u00a0Travis Etienne<\/a>\u00a0on offense,” Edholm wrote. “Can Jacksonville remain among the contenders? Too early to definitively say yes or no.”<\/p>\n It’s been a quiet free agency for the Jaguars, with only one outside signing being made in running back Chris Rodriguez. This was likely a key factor in the Jaguars dropping in Edholm’s rankings.<\/p>\n However, Edholm acknowledged that this was likely never going to be an active free agency for the Jaguars, and there are a few reasons for that.<\/p>\n Expert NFL picks: Exclusive betting insights only at USA TODAY.<\/a><\/p>\n As GM James Gladstone explained, the 2027 compensatory picks the Jaguars are projected to receive for letting Lloyd, Etienne, and Newsome walk factored into this approach. Not helping matters either is Jacksonville’s\u00a0tight salary cap situation<\/a>\u00a0this offseason.<\/p>\n But not to be overlooked was the re-signing of Montaric Brown, who was quite good last season and stabilizes the cornerback position. Re-signing Dennis Gardeck also gives the Jaguars another pass-rush presence and a starting SAM linebacker.<\/p>\n Despite the overall lack of moves, Gladstone is confident in where the Jaguars’ roster is at. While a year ago, the roster underwent a lot of turnover, wholesale changes are not needed in 2026, with there being solid foundations at really every position group.<\/p>\n This gives the Jaguars added flexibility<\/a> going into the NFL draft to take the best player, rather than feeling like they must address a specific position at a certain point.<\/p>\n
