The New York Giants<\/a> attempted to acquire a notable veteran linebacker through a trade during free agency, reports ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.<\/p>\n

“Giants definitely did try to trade for a linebacker, I heard,” Raanan said on his YouTube channel<\/a>. “And the story I heard was that said linebacker didn\u2019t really want to go, and the trade kind of broke apart. It\u2019s a guy that\u2019s getting towards the end of his career, and it just didn\u2019t work out.”<\/p>\n

Raanan added that the veteran refused to relocate, which caused the deal to collapse.<\/p>\n

Although the player\u2019s identity was not confirmed, the description matches that of San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner. The eight-year NFL veteran has earned four First-team All-Pro honors and four Pro Bowl selections in his career with the team.<\/p>\n

The attempt followed the Giants’ release of Bobby Okereke in a cost-saving move. The team then signed Tremaine Edmunds, though Raanan said he was unsure if Edmunds was the original target.<\/p>\n

The Giants also re-signed Micah McFadden, who missed most of the 2025 season with a foot injury.<\/p>\n
