The New York Giants<\/a> fell short of a playoff berth for a third straight year, going 4-13 during the 2025 NFL<\/a> season. However, rookie running back Cam Skattebo<\/a> was one of New York’s most promising pieces of the season alongside rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In eight appearances and five starts, the former Arizona State Sun Devil rushed for 410 yards <\/a>and five touchdowns on 101 carries to go along with 24 receptions for 207 yards and two touchdowns. However, Skattebo’s year was derailed after suffering a season-ending ankle injury in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It’s expected that Skattebo will be ready to return by Week 1 of the 2026 season. If not, the Giants will still be able to lean on Tyrone Tracy Jr., whose 740 rushing yards<\/a> last year led the team.<\/p>\n

Even with Skattebo and Tracy, The Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer predicts<\/a> the Giants will sign running back Najee Harris in free agency.<\/p>\n

“Harris was showing some promise in the Greg Roman offense before he went down in his lone season with the\u00a0Chargers,” Iyer wrote. “Roman now works for the\u00a0Giants<\/a>, where they need some power contingency for Cam Skattebo.”<\/p>\n

It was a down season for Harris after being limited to just three games for the Los Angeles Chargers<\/a> because of a torn Achilles. However, his past success with the Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a> makes him an intriguing option.<\/p>\n

The former Alabama star rushed for at least 1,000 yards in each of his first four seasons with the Steelers. From 2021 to 2024, he combined for 4,312 rushing yards <\/a>and 28 touchdowns. He also had 180 receptions for 1,149 yards and six touchdowns. Harris even earned a Pro Bowl nod in his rookie season.<\/p>\n

While Skattebo and Tracy may be a strong duo, adding Harris would be a cheap move. Spotrac projects his market value will earn him a one-year, $2.9 million<\/a> contract. It would be a low risk for a player to hit 1,000 yards in four of his five seasons in the NFL.<\/p>\n
