HOUSTON \u2013 This spring, the Houston Zoo<\/a> is blossoming with colorful plant displays and special zookeeper chats that focus on pollinators. It\u2019s all part of \u2018Zoo Bloom<\/a>,\u2019 a chance to learn more about the plants that play an important role both here at the zoo and throughout our city. <\/p>\n

Along with making up animal habitats, the plants also create food, shelter, and safe pathways for birds, bats and pollinators.<\/p>\n

Plus, for the first time ever the zoo will host a public plant sale so you can take home plants from your favorite animal habitat. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe best part about the \u2018Zoo Bloom\u2019 plant sale (is) everything comes from the zoo; everything was either from cuttings, or seeds we collected rather than purchased,\u201d said Mel Stockseth, the Houston Zoo\u2019s Horticulture Supervisor, who has a degree in Foresty and is currently pursuing a Master\u2019s Degree.<\/p>\n

Some of the cuttings currently in the greenhouse were taken from the zoo\u2019s gorilla exhibit.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re with literally you taking a piece of the zoo and that\u2019s so cool. That\u2019s my favorite part,\u201d said Stockseth.<\/p>\n
