Among the numerous free agent moves made by the Indianapolis Colts<\/a> in recent days, two of those signings have been at the cornerback position. Given these recent additions, what does the Colts<\/a>‘ crowded cornerback depth chart now look like?<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the Colts announced that they signed Cam Taylor-Britt<\/a>, who spent several seasons in Cincinnati playing under Lou Anarumo. Then on Thursday, the Colts announced that they re-signed Cameron Mitchell<\/a>, who appeared in eight games last season with the team, and took advantage of his opportunities.<\/p>\n

These two are now a part of what was already a well put-together position group.<\/p>\n

On the outside, the Colts have two lockdown-level cornerbacks in Sauce Gardner and Charvarius Ward. After Ward was contemplating his future at the end of the 2025 season, GM Chris Ballard said at the NFL combine that “all indications”<\/a> are that he will play in 2026. Still at the nickel for the Colts is Kenny Moore.<\/p>\n

Returning from injury this season will be Justin Walley, whom the team is very bullish about<\/a> after a strong start to last summer’s training camp.<\/p>\n

Those players already account for four roster spots. Teams typically keep anywhere from five to seven players at the cornerback position on their 53-man roster, although six is often the norm.<\/p>\n

That means that Taylor-Britt, Mitchell, Jaylon Jones, Mekhi Blackmon, and Johnathan Edwards will potentially be competing for only two roster spots.<\/p>\n

Given Taylor-Britt’s experience under Anarumo and the fact that he’s showcased high-level play previously, he could be the front-runner for that fifth spot on the depth chart, which would then possibly leave just one roster spot available.<\/p>\n

This position group was decimated by injuries last season, and the depth was very much tested.
