Wow, the Eagles finally traded Brown.<\/p>\n
Not A.J. Not yet, at least.<\/p>\n
A look at the terms of the deal:<\/p>\n
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES RECEIVE \u2014 2026 fourth-round pick (No. 114 overall), 2026 sixth-round pick (No. 197 overall)<\/p>\n
ATLANTA FALCONS RECEIVE \u2014 S Sydney Brown, 2026 fourth-round pick (No. 122 overall), 2026 sixth-round pick (No. 215 overall)<\/p>\n
So, the Eagles moved up eight spots in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft \u2026 plus 18 spots in the sixth round \u2026 to move off of Brown and clear about $1.5 million in cap space.<\/p>\n
The Eagles originally had high hopes for Brown when they selected him with a high third-round pick (No. 66 overall) in the 2023 NFL Draft. He showed some promise as a rookie before suffering an Achilles injury that lingered into the 2024 season. Brown was limited to just 79 defensive snaps in his second season.<\/p>\n
Injury issues forced Brown into 249 defensive snaps in 2025 and he notably struggled when he was on the field. The Chicago Bears game was especially bad; he played just nine defensive snaps the rest of the season after that (excluding Week 18 when the Eagles rested starters).<\/p>\n
It became quite clear that Vic Fangio didn\u2019t trust Brown to play. Though physically talented, Brown seemed to struggle with the mental part of the safety position. He was also reckless on special teams, often committing avoidable mistakes.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s no surprise, then, to see the Eagles move on from him because it just wasn\u2019t going to work in Philly. At least as long as Fangio is still here. Perhaps Brown will benefit from a change of scenery.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, the Eagles are still looking for help at safety after losing Reed Blankenship in free agency. It\u2019s quite possible they\u2019ll re-sign Marcus Epps; it could be even more likely now that Brown is gone. Otherwise it\u2019s just Andrew Mukuba and \u2026 not much else at the position. Maybe Michael Carter II changes positions?<\/p>\n
While Howie Roseman has to take the L on Brown not becoming what he envisioned, he at least made an effort to salvage what little value Brown had left as opposed to cutting him down the road and getting nothing in return.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Wow, the Eagles finally traded Brown.
