{"id":825686,"date":"2026-03-21T20:24:16","date_gmt":"2026-03-21T20:24:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/825686\/"},"modified":"2026-03-21T20:24:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-21T20:24:16","slug":"darrell-green-66-wants-to-make-team-usas-flag-football-squad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/825686\/","title":{"rendered":"Darrell Green, 66, wants to make Team USA&#8217;s flag football squad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pro Football Hall of Famer Darrell Green\u2019s playing dreams are still alive.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 66-year-old two-time Super Bowl champion is taking part in team trials this weekend in California with hopes of making the USA Flag Football\u2019s national team ahead of the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>If all goes well, Green, who retired from the NFL in 2002, would receive an invite to the team\u2019s training camp next month.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Darrell Green of the Washington Redskins in position during an NFL football game against the Tennessee Titans on October 6, 2002 at FedExField in Landover, Maryland. Getty Images for OBB Media \u2013 FAN<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s nothing like getting on that field and competing on behalf of this country,\u201d Green said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DWHr-5PEkX4\/?igsh=MTRtZXN3OW9ocXZ1ag%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Instagram reel posted to USA Football\u2019s page<\/a>. \u201cAnd then topping that off standing on that top podium getting that gold [medal]. I\u2019ve done it in track in college and high school. I\u2019ve been in Super Bowls, this is the granddaddy of them all. Don\u2019t feel sorry for me, don\u2019t feel bad for me. I\u2019m a competitor just like everybody else and I\u2019m gonna give it my best and walk away with my head up, either way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Green is one of many athletes hoping to play for Team USA, with the debut of Olympic flag football coming in Los Angeles in 2028.<\/p>\n<p>Given his age, it\u2019s incredible Green made it this far with the team\u2019s rules on how can qualify for the trials.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDarrell qualified through our digital combine.
