{"id":826064,"date":"2026-03-22T00:22:23","date_gmt":"2026-03-22T00:22:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/826064\/"},"modified":"2026-03-22T00:22:23","modified_gmt":"2026-03-22T00:22:23","slug":"former-michigan-football-assistant-coach-returning-for-recruiting-role","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/826064\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Michigan Football assistant coach returning for recruiting role"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">In a very interesting turn of events, a former Michigan Football assistant coach is now returning to Ann Arbor just a few months after not being retained by new head coach Kyle Whittingham.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">As first reported by Tony Garcia of The Detroit Free Press, former wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy is now coming back to the program to serve in the recruiting department as the director of player personnel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Josh Henschke of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/maize-blue-review\/news\/intel-former-michigan-assistant-mulling-return-in-unique-front-office-role\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Maize and Blue Review<\/a> wrote a report on March 18 that detailed Bellamy\u2019s potential new role, saying it is a \u201cfront-office role with specialized responsibilities \u2026 the role would be a recruiting and NIL liaison of sorts for high school recruits, allowing (Bellamy) to be on the road recruiting and serve as a major point of contact for recruits across the country \u2026 sources compared it to Alabama\u2019s Courtney Morgan, who can be on the road recruiting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Bellamy played a big role in recruiting players in the Midwest, specifically, when he was an assistant coach for the Wolverines beginning in 2021. He is <a href=\"https:\/\/247sports.com\/coach\/ron-bellamy-4667\/alltimerecruits\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">listed as one of the recruiters<\/a> for players like Bryce Underwood, Will Johnson, Elijah Dotson, Avery Gach and Semaj Morgan, to name a few. He also played a big role in Michigan landing Donovan Edwards, who he coached at West Bloomfield High School.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">This is a really good move by Whittingham and new general manager Dave Peloquin. While things didn\u2019t exactly work out for Bellamy as the program\u2019s wide receivers coach, he was a vital resource for the Wolverines on the recruiting trail, doing an excellent job over the years connecting with players and their families.
