The former Minnesota Golden Gophers prospect signed a two-year deal with the Green Bay Packers in free agency and brings much-needed size to the cornerback room.

That makeover will continue during the 2026 NFL Draft, where Brian Gutekunst could double-dip at the position. A potential target on Day 3 is Stanford’s Collin Wright. The Stanford cornerback checks in at No. 38 in the Unpacking Future Packers Countdown.

A four-star recruit and former three-sport athlete from Manvel High School in Texas, Wright recorded 1.5 tackles for loss during his first season with the Cardinals. In 2023, Wright recorded 61 tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack, one interception and five pass deflections. The following season, the Texas native recorded 45 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions and five pass deflections.

In nine games this past season, Wright recorded one tackle for loss, one interception (pick-six), and four pass deflections.

Expert NFL picks: Exclusive betting insights only at USA TODAY.

“Collin Wright has a very high IQ coupled with great physical tools,” Ben Parker, the publisher for Stanford Rivals, said. “He makes the right reads, plays the game the right way, and knows his assignment. Week in, week out, he always took on opposing teams’ top receivers and more often than not won those battles.”

At 6-0 with nearly 31-inch arms, Wright has adequate size. The Stanford product plays with the savviness of a 10-year veteran in coverage. He shows excellent field awareness and has a high football IQ. He has controlled feet in his backpedal and does a good job of using the sideline as an ally. A former track athlete, Wright has the acceleration to recover and has explosive drive quickness. His heart rate doesn’t spike when the ball is in the air, and he does a decent job of challenging wide receivers at the catch point.

“He is effective in coverage due to his discipline, feel for the game, IQ, and great physical tools,” Parker said. “He is good at breaking up passes without drawing a flag. He could probably do better at actually intercepting balls, but aside from that, his coverage skills are strong.”

Wright is not a liability in run support. He’s a dog. He’s physical and scrappy. He finishes tackles with strong hands and was tagged with just three missed tackles this past season, while recording 12 run stops and only giving up 75 yards after the catch.

“He’s a good tackler and knows how to wrap guys up,” Parker said. “He doesn’t shy away from physicality. While I think his coverage skills are better, he showed an ability to tackle with good technique and do what is needed to bring guys down.”

A feather in Wright’s cap is his versatility. This past season, he played primarily on the boundary, and in 2024, he logged 276 snaps in the slot and 279 snaps on the boundary.

Fit with the Packers

Adding talent to the cornerback room is an immediate and long-term need. Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine are both entering contract years, and it’s a safe bet right now that neither one will earn another contract with the Packers.

With the Packers needing depth for the upcoming season and long-term replacements for Nixon and Valetine, Wright could be an ideal target for the Packers late on Day 3 of the upcoming draft.

As a Day 3 pick, Wrigth checks the boxes with his size, athletic background, route recognition, toughness and his versatility.

“I would draft Collin Wright because he’s a high character guy with the physical tools, IQ, and skills to be successful in the NFL,” Parker said. “He’s a great teammate and locker room guy. He’ll work hard, be a true professional, and put his team first. You can never have too many guys like that.”

March 22, 2026, 5:12 p.m. CT The Unpacking Future Packers Countdown is a countdown of 100 prospects who the Green…

[2072
95878,7,41,345,2514,2513,6,428,95980,95981,95882,99141,95930,114338,95896,95888,95906,95883,95881
0":"post-828184","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-green-bay-packers","8":"tag-accessfree","9":"tag-football","10":"tag-green-bay","11":"tag-green-bay-packers","12":"tag-greenbay","13":"tag-greenbaypackers","14":"tag-nfl","15":"tag-packers","16":"tag-sstssportsnflpackers","17":"tag-sstsnpackers","18":"tag-tagamerican-football","19":"tag-tagbenjamin-st-juste","20":"tag-tagbig-ten-conference-football","21":"tag-tagminnesota-golden-gophers-football","22":"tag-tagnational-sports","23":"tag-tagnfl","24":"tag-tagoverall-positive","25":"tag-tagsports-news","26":"tag-typestory
["GET
