In 2008, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/nfl\/teams\/atlanta-falcons\/323\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Atlanta Falcons;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Atlanta Falcons<\/a> selected <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/11-college-coaches-falcons-consider-180029629.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Matt Ryan;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Matt Ryan<\/a> with the third overall pick and were rewarded with a decade of competitive football and a trip to the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n<p>The Falcons didn&#8217;t have as much luck with their first-round pick in 2009, selecting <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/ncaaf\/teams\/ole-miss-rebels\/3482\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Ole Miss;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Ole Miss<\/a> defensive tackle Peria Jerry with the 24th overall selection. Jerry spent his entire five-year career in Atlanta (2009-2013), but his impact was minimal.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Pro Football Focus had the team go in a different direction in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pff.com\/news\/draft-2009-nfl-redraft-pff-grades-data\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:2009 NFL redraft;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">2009 NFL redraft<\/a>, projecting the Falcons to take former <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/nfl\/teams\/new-england-patriots\/348\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:New England Patriots;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">New England Patriots<\/a> safety <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pff.com\/news\/draft-2009-nfl-redraft-pff-grades-data\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Patrick Chung;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Patrick Chung<\/a> instead of Jerry at pick No. 24.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Chung didn\u2019t always have the best PFF overall grades, but his 11-year career makes him a worthy selection this late in a redraft,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pff.com\/news\/draft-2009-nfl-redraft-pff-grades-data\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:wrote PFF&#039;s Max Chadwick\u00a0and\u00a0Trevor Sikkema;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">wrote PFF&#8217;s Max Chadwick\u00a0and\u00a0Trevor Sikkema<\/a>. &#8220;His best season was in 2015, when he earned a 78.8 PFF overall grade with a 79.3 PFF coverage grade.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The three-time Super Bowl champion appeared in 153 games (122 starts), recording 11 career interceptions, 57 passes defended, 4.5 sacks and 521 solo tackles.
