Epps started the final four games of the Eagles’ season last year after Mukuba went down with an injury and played pretty well. Add that to the 25 starts he compiled with the Eagles during his first stint with the team and the 49 career starts he has overall, it’s not hard to see Epps settling in as the veteran presence on the back end next to Mukuba, who can be more of a risk taker back there. Don’t discount Carter, though. The team intends to move the 27-year-old to safety this offseason and there are some who believe his transition from slot cornerback to safety will be seamless enough for him to vie for the starting job in training camp. Roseman alluded to Carter’s ability to move to safety shortly after swapping seventh-round picks with the New York Jets in exchange for Carter, who has played 73 games mostly as a nickel corner in his career.

Eagles depth chart analysis: Major changes in secondary; more to come on O-line, edge – The Athletic
Safety: Analysis: If you haven’t checked your Eagles updates since Friday afternoon, this depth chart would surprise you. The Eagles shook up the safety spot Friday when they traded Sydney Brown to Atlanta and quickly re-signed Marcus Epps and added J.T. Gray. Mukuba is the top option and returns from a season-ending injury as a starter, but the second spot is uncertain after Reed Blankenship departed. Epps was a steady veteran following Mukuba’s injury; he had usurped Brown on the depth chart. The Eagles re-negotiated Carter’s deal to keep him around this season and are expected to give him more of a look at safety. If the season started this week with everybody healthy, they would be the top two options after Mukuba at safety. Of course, there’s nearly six months until the Eagles play. Look for this spot to evolve. Gray seems like more of a special teams signing than someone added for a defensive role. Sam and Johnson are back after time on the practice squad and spot duty in games. The Eagles will look in the draft and scour the trade market for an option. But don’t be surprised if Carter pushes for playing time.

Riq Woolen Q&A: 5 questions and answers about the new Eagles cornerback – BGN
After a quiet start to free agency, the Philadelphia Eagles made their biggest splash of the offseason thus far by signing Riq Woolen to a one-year contract reportedly worth up to $15 million. If B.G. plays 17 games this year, he’ll get up to 232, trailing only Jordan. But in my view, that’s really not the name of the game. The real skill in free agency is finding good value for the players you sign, and if you have to pay a little extra for a star player who is legitimately going to help you win games, then fine. The Commanders did neither. They added a bunch of players with a trait here or there, but obvious flaws in their games otherwise, and they got them all at bad values. What they did was spend a lot of their available money to marginally improve their roster.
