The tush push is here to stay. The NFL has released all the 2026 rule change proposals, and none of them address the tush push, which last year was the subject of a fierce offseason debate. It\u2019s still possible that some team could propose a rule against the tush push, but there appears to be no momentum for it. Any rule change needs 24 teams to vote for it, and when last year\u2019s proposal to ban the tush push fell two votes short, that may have ended it.<\/p>\n

Notable about this move is what it means for A.J. Brown. The team bringing in one of Browns best friends could be used to placate the receiver and try to keep him happy in Philly instead of ultimately trading him at some point this offseason. Brown has often talked about how close he and Moore are, and credited his college teammate for helping him through his darkest moments.<\/p>\n
The loss of those three key defenders aside, the significant moves the Eagles made otherwise were logical. Jordan Davis earned his contract extension with a breakout 2025 season. Running it back with Dallas Goedert one more year doesn\u2019t force the team to reach for a tight end in the draft, and helps their short-term cap health. Riq Woolen is a high upside play. The Eagles\u2019 free agency period is also somewhat incomplete, as the situations for A.J. Brown and Jalen Carter still have to play out. Trades around the league for receivers like D.J. Moore and Jaylen Waddle yielded stronger than expected returns, so Roseman will be under pressure to get a favorable return for Brown as well, assuming the star receiver is dealt. It is also to be determined if Carter will get his contract extension this offseason, and what that looks like. Overall, the Eagles\u2019 offseason more or less has gone as expected, with notable starters now playing elsewhere, but it\u2019s also true that the roster got worse, even if unavoidably so. Grade: C.<\/p>\n
These signings, as well as other recent moves, have made the roster draft proof, so to speak. Howie doesn\u2019t have to take any position. He\u2019s got the flexibility to move up if he wants or even to move back. Howie still needs to add young talent to the offense (OT, OG, WR, TE), but he doesn\u2019t have to force a pick if the board doesn\u2019t play out favorably for the Eagles. I happen to think this draft class matches up well with the Eagles needs, but we\u2019ve seen that before and it still hasn\u2019t worked out. There will be a run on a certain position and if you\u2019re past that run you miss out.<\/p>\n
The first addition was cornerback Riq Woolen, a talented cornerback with rare size (he\u2019s 6-4 with long arms) and big-time speed, along with experience and the understanding of being part of a championship culture. He plays fast, he plays with passion, and he has a chance to team with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean to give the Eagles a cornerback room that is as good as any in the NFL. Woolen signed a one-year contract, and we\u2019re going to see how it all works out. Nothing is guaranteed here. There are high hopes, of course, as the Eagles have familiarity with all of what Woolen brings to the table \u2014 Senior Defensive Assistant\/Defensive Line\/Associate Head Coach Clint Hurtt and Cornerbacks Coach Roy Anderson coached Woolen in Seattle \u2014 and the Eagles are going to start working with him when the offseason program begins in late April. The hope is that Woolen provides a significant upside to the room.<\/p>\n
The Bengals brought back Joe Flacco on a one-year deal on Tuesday afternoon, giving the team one of the best veteran backup quarterback options on their roster this year. The reported numbers were a bit of a surprise, but it gives the Bengals a solid option should Joe Burrow go down with injury once again. Apparently, the Las Vegas Raiders were heavily interested in Flacco, with the Bengals stepping up to land the 41-year-old signal-caller. [BLG Note: Former Eagles QB and South Jersey native is entering his 19th NFL season.]<\/p>\n
First off, at the time of negotiations the Cowboys did not hold second- or third-round picks in this year\u2019s draft as their original selections had previously been dealt away in prior trades (Quinnen Williams and George Pickens, respectively). It would stand to reason that these were future picks for this reason. Another point is that the Cowboys did have Osa Odighizuwa on their roster at the time, although he was later dealt to the San Francisco 49ers for a third-round pick (92 overall). Just for context. Honestly any of these deals would have been pretty fair for the Cowboys, assuming the physical stuff had not happened. Crosby would have significantly changed their roster in a way that no player at picks 12 or 20 would be able to initially, which was the argument for him all along.<\/p>\n
Leo Chenal has a golden opportunity with the Washington Commanders. The former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker signed a three-year contract with Washington during free agency for $8.2 million per year. The pay in itself indicates Washington\u2019s belief in who Chenal can become in a defense that does not have Drue Tranquill and Nick Bolton playing ahead of him. Because of a crowded room, Chenal was limited to playing predominantly as a Sam linebacker or as a situational sub-defensive end. In all, he was Steve Spagnuolo\u2019s chess piece; he trusted Chenal against the run because of his high-end functional strength against offensive linemen and solid pass-rushing ability. His skill set and role in Kansas City are similar to those of Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Zack Baun, when he played for the New Orleans Saints. So, is Chenal capable of expanding his role in a similar way now that he\u2019s in Washington?<\/p>\n
The New York Giants reportedly filled a major need on Tuesday, signing veteran long snapper Zach Triner. The 35-year-old Triner has been in the NFL since 2019, and has snapped in 85 regular season games. Triner spent the first 5\u00bd years of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being waived in 2024. He snapped for the Miami Dolphins for three games in 2024. Last season, Triner only appeared in one game, snapping for the Washington Commanders. He also spent time in 2025 with the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons. [BLG Note: The Eagles still need to sign a long snapper.]<\/p>\n
NEW YORK GIANTS: This isn\u2019t the first time Dennard Wilson has replaced Shane Bowen — he also did so in Tennessee back in 2024. The biggest tendency changes from that shift were that Wilson implemented fewer light boxes and less dime personnel after Bowen\u2019s defense used both at extremely high rates in 2023. Last season, both of the Titans and Giants defenses hinged heavily on a disruptive defensive tackle in a 3-4 front — Jeffery Simmons and Dexter Lawrence, respectively — so Wilson won\u2019t have to change much in that respect. And while New York did make a couple major signings in LB Tremaine Edmunds and CB Greg Newsome II, they are more replacements than additions, considering the departures of Bobby Okereke and Cordale Flott. On offense, expect to see less 11 personnel under new management. John Harbaugh\u2019s Ravens used it the least of any team in the league in each of the last two seasons, and Nagy frequently featured multiple tight ends with the Chiefs. The signings of former Ravens TE Isaiah Likely and FB Patrick Ricard were both obvious hints at Big Blue shifting toward two-TE and\/or two-RB sets. Also, Nagy\u2019s Chiefs and Harbaugh\u2019s Ravens ranked second and third in extended dropback rate over the past three seasons. In these schemes, for both the crucial Harbaugh run game and the preservation of Jaxson Dart, the front office will need to prioritize the offensive line in April.<\/p>\n
Over the course of a few short weeks, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ahve seen two franchise cornerstones leave the NFC South. First came wide receiver Mike Evans, who finally tested the free agency waters and agreed to terms on a new deal with the San Francisco 49ers. That brings to an end a run in Tampa Bay that saw Evans set almost every single Buccaneers franchise receiver records, post 11 consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons to begin his career (an NFL record) and match Jerry Rice with those 11 seasons, and be part of the team that won Super Bowl LV. Now it is linebacker Lavonte David, who announced on Tuesday that after 14 seasons in the NFL \u2014 all of which came in Tampa Bay \u2014 he is retiring from the game.<\/p>\n
The NFL competition committee has finalized a series of wide-ranging rule change proposals to account for the growing possibility of a work stoppage amid tense collective bargaining negotiations with the NFL Referees Association, according to a list released by the league Tuesday. The changes would only apply if the NFL hires replacement officials, a process it began preparing for earlier this month by reaching out to mostly small-college officiating supervisors in an effort to develop a list of 150 replacement candidates.
