While the Las Vegas Raiders have addressed many holes on the roster, they have yet to do anything at the most important position on the field.<\/p>\n
Yes, the Raiders still need a quarterback.<\/p>\n
Of course, they are fully expected to address the position in a big way next month by taking Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall draft pick. While Mendoza has a chance to be the long-term answer at the position (finally), the raiders still need more at quarterback.<\/p>\n
They traded Geno Smith to the Jets and his backup, Kenny Pickett, went to Carolina in free agency. The Raiders only have deep backup Aidan O\u2019Connell, but he\u2019s no sure thing to make the 53-man roster.<\/p>\n
The Raiders need a backup quarterback and there is a solid chance that player will begin the season as the starter because Las Vegas general manager John Spytek said he\u2019s not a fan of starting a rookie quarterback in Week 1.<\/p>\n
Well, there aren\u2019t a lot of great options, but two names that stick out is Kirk Cousins , especially with Joe Flacco agreeing with the Bengals on Tuesday. ESPN reported the Raiders also had interest in Flacco.<\/p>\n
Cousins may make tsense because he had played for new Raiders\u2019 head coach Klint Kubiak and offensive coordinator Andrew Janocko in Minnesota. Yet, there has been some speculation Cousins, who will be 38 this season, could wait for training camp and see if a starter getting injured. Las Vegas will probably not be interested in waiting that long.<\/p>\n
Other available backup types out there are include Tyrod Taylor, Brandon Allen (who has history with Kubiak), Cooper Rush, Russell Wilson and Jimmy Garoppolo (I know, I know).<\/p>\n
So, the options are not terrific.
