New Orleans Saints<\/a> quarterback Tyler Shough has declared himself a Democrat<\/a> by vowing to back Andy Beshear, the governor of Kentucky<\/a>, if he runs in the next election<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In resurfaced quotes from a podcast interview last year,<\/a> the reigning NFL Rookie of the Year told Beshear that he would have his support in a potential bid for the White House.<\/p>\n

Shough said: ‘Mr Beshear, I hope you become president one day, man.\u00a0We will be voting for you. I appreciate the opportunity and maybe at\u00a0that point I’ll be in your cabinet for sports advisor or something.’<\/p>\n

Beshear was noncommittal back in January when asked whether he intends to enter the Democratic race for the White House in 2028.\u00a0Gavin Newsom and Josh Shapiro are the leading contenders at present.<\/p>\n

Beshear rose to prominence after winning three elections in Republican-trending Kentucky – once for attorney general and twice for\u00a0governor<\/a>. He defeated Trump-backed opponents both times he won the governorship.<\/p>\n

Shough’s support for Beshear comes after his wife, Jordan, hit out at Donald Trump<\/a>‘s administration\u00a0during ICE’s crackdown in Minneapolis earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Shough’s wife, Jordan, criticized Trump’s administration during ICE’s crackdown in Minnesota<\/p>\n

Following the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal agents, Jordan shared a fan’s comment on Threads which said: ‘When the government kills people to scare you into acting differently, that\u2019s called state-sponsored terrorism.’\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jordan then added a quote from George Orwell’s novel “1984”, writing: ‘The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.’<\/p>\n

Shough and Jordan welcomed their first child earlier this year. On February 19, they announced the birth of son Grayson.<\/p>\n

He had a longer college career than most, playing for\u00a0Oregon<\/a>, Texas Tech and Louisville before being selected No 40 overall in 2025 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

He was initially involved in a three-player fight for the No 1 quarterback spot in New Orleans<\/a> at the start of last season, losing out to Spencer Rattler.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Shough didn’t start his first game until November, with the team sitting 1-7, but he completed a remarkable turnaround and broke multiple franchise records.<\/p>\n

He had the highest completion percentage among all rookies in the league (67.6), as well as the second-most passing yards and second-highest passer rating.<\/p>\n

In winning the Rookie of the Year award, he beat Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart, as well as Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson. Also nominated were Ashton Jeanty, Tet McMillan and Carson Schwesinger.<\/p>\n
