The Washington Commanders<\/a> have invested a ton of money on the defensive side of the ball this offseason. The team has brought in quality talent like edge-rusher Odafe Oweh<\/a>, linebacker Leo Chenal, and cornerback Amik Robertson, among others.<\/p>\n However, the team still has some offensive holes that need to be addressed. The wide receiver options behind Terry McLaurin are not exactly inspiring, and the offensive line could use a couple more solid pieces for depth at least.<\/p>\n The team still has plenty of cap space even after their flurry of moves. The Commanders<\/a> are currently sitting at about $45 million under the cap, which is plenty if the team wants to add a couple more veterans before the season starts.<\/p>\n Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport<\/a> recently identified one free agent that teams with the most cap space should target. For the Commanders, Davenport identified veteran center Ethan Pocic.<\/p>\n If the season started today, the Commanders would likely turn to Nick Allegretti to be the starting center. Allegretti 260 snaps last year and wasn’t particularly effective when on the field. Washington surprisingly released starting center Tyler Biadasz before free agency and made a push for Tyler Linderbaum, only for the Raiders to blow everyone’s offers out of the water.<\/p>\n Expert NFL picks: Exclusive betting insights only at USA TODAY.<\/a><\/p>\n Pocic, meanwhile, has been a reliable option for both the Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns<\/a> in his career.<\/p>\n Regarding this fit, Davenport offered the following:<\/p>\n Ethan Pocic wouldn’t be a long-term solution for the team\u2014he’ll turn 31 before the season starts. He has also missed multiple games in three of the past four seasons, including four a year ago.<\/p>\n However, the 10th-year veteran is a capable NFL starter with 97 career starts under his belt and allowed just two sacks in 826 snaps last year with the Cleveland Browns.<\/p>\n On a one-year deal, Pocic would be a solid addition for Washington.<\/p>\n As Davenport mentioned, Pocic isn’t a long-term fix, but he could stabilize the position for at least the 2026 season.<\/p>\n
