The New York Jets<\/a> will hold a private workout with Alabama<\/a> quarterback Ty Simpson as they weigh up whether to select him in the NFL draft.<\/p>\n

Simpson will show off his quarterback skills exclusively for the Jets on Friday, according to The New York Post.<\/a><\/p>\n

Head coach Aaron Glenn is looking for a new face of the franchise after the Jets’ failure to identify a long-term quarterback in recent years.<\/p>\n

They have already traded away Justin Fields to the Kansas<\/a> City Chiefs this offseason and replaced him by bringing back Geno Smith in a trade with the Las Vegas<\/a> Raiders.<\/p>\n

But, at 35, Smith is not a viable long-term option and the Jets only have Brady Cook and Bailey Zappe on the quarterback depth chart.<\/p>\n

However, they have the opportunity to land a quarterback in next month’s draft.<\/p>\n

They brought back Geno Smith in a trade with the Raiders but, at 35, he’s not a long-term fix<\/p>\n

The Jets currently own the No. 2 and No. 16 picks in the first round, meaning they will be able to get two players with elite potential.<\/p>\n

Simpson is not expected to command a No. 2 pick, meaning he could be an option for the Jets later in the first round.<\/p>\n

However, there has been speculation that the Jets could try and swap either their No. 33 and No. 44 picks in the second round for another first rounder and take Simpson then.<\/p>\n

Simpson worked out for NFL scouts at Alabama’s pro day on Wednesday, where he threw passes in drills for teams interested in taking him.<\/p>\n

He is widely regarded as the second-best quarterback in this year’s class after Indiana\u2019s Fernando Mendoza, who is surely going to be chosen No. 1 by Tom Brady and the Las Vegas Raiders.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Glenn and Jets general manager Darren Mougey were not present at Alabama’s pro day, however. Instead, they were watching potential talents at Ohio State.<\/p>\n

Simpson spent just one season as the starter for the Crimson Tide. He threw for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns and five interceptions in the 2025 campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n
