The New England Patriots currently have a handful of players on friendly contracts, as the team has struggled in recent years until last season.

However, every team has a few contracts that could be worth revisiting, and according to Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon, defensive tackle Christian Barmore stands out as the most overpaid player on the Patriots.

“The interior defensive lineman show continues with Barmore, who has lacked both consistency and durability for much of his five-year run thus far in New England,” Gagnon wrote on Friday. “The 26-year-old is a solid piece of the puzzle for the Patriots, but he’s yet to live up to a top-20 positional AAV at $20.8 million.”

Barmore has been with New England since 2021, but last season, he struggled on the field. Pro Football Focus rated him as the 92nd best interior defensive lineman out of 134, placing him a disappointing 133rd in run defense.

The Patriots must believe that last season was just a fluke for Barmore, especially since they decided to pick up his guaranteed $12 million on March 14.

New England will need a stronger season from Barmore this fall, as the Patriots are set to face a lineup of tough teams after finishing in first place in the AFC last season.
