TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The Kansas Senate passed a bill on Friday, March 27, creating a Sports Authority Board to oversee the Kansas City Chiefs\u2019 proposed facilities. <\/p>\n
The proposed board would include legislative leaders, the governor, city mayors, and a representative from the Chiefs as voting members.<\/p>\n
The authority would be part of the confirmation process tied to the team\u2019s plans, which include a proposed stadium in Kansas City, Kansas, and a team headquarters in Olathe.<\/p>\n
The bill will now move to the next step in the legislative process.<\/p>\n
Senator Cindy Holscher released a statement regarding the Senate\u2019s passage of the Sports Authority bill:<\/p>\n
\u201cKansans are facing a real affordability crisis, and I voted no because this stadium deal won\u2019t do anything to address it. It\u2019s a raw deal for Kansans, diverting billions of dollars in taxpayer money from schools, roads, and public safety to handouts for a billionaire family.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe should be focused on making life easier for Kansans, not on big risky deals that won\u2019t have the payoff they claim. I\u2019m going to keep fighting for what really matters, like lower costs, stronger schools, and economic growth \u2014 but in ways that protect Kansas families, rather than sticking them with the bill.\u201d<\/p>\n
