Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport proposed a trade target that could turn the Seahawks into the dominant team during the second half of this decade — Myles Garrett.

On Saturday, Davenport named the Seahawks one of eight potential landing spots for Garrett if the Cleveland Browns trade him this offseason.

“A Garrett trade would be the ultimate all-in move from Seattle general manager John Schneider. In theory, the Seahawks have the cap space to make a trade happen—over $33 million. What they might not have is a player to include in the trade who would turn Cleveland’s gears, so the team might have to up the draft capital involved by including say a Day 2 pick with two firsts,” wrote Davenport.

“Some may call this deal unnecessary—after all, Seattle just won the Super Bowl. But it’s undeniable that Garrett would make Seattle’s defense that much scarier.”

In summary, the Seahawks trading for Garrett would be the best NFL defense adding the league’s best defensive player.

Garrett has won the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award twice in the past three seasons. In 2025, he set a new NFL record with 23 sacks.

During their Super Bowl season, the Seahawks were first in points allowed and sixth in total defense. Seattle also finished last season first in yards per carry allowed and second in net yards yielded per pass.

Why Seahawks Could Show Interest in Myles Garrett

There’s really no secret why Seattle might pursue Garrett if he reaches the trade market. Just about every team, especially contenders, would do that.

That’s the kind of star power Garrett possesses.

For the Seahawks, they could acquire Garrett to make up for the defensive losses they sustained this offseason. In NFL free agency, edge rusher Boye Mafe left Seattle to sign a 3-year, $60 million with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Safety Coby Bryant and cornerback Tariq Woolen departed the Super Bowl champions as well.

Garrett is only a direct replacement for Mafe. But the Seahawks improving their pass rush with Garrett would help the team’s secondary too.

In nine NFL seasons, the Browns edge rusher has 125.5 sacks with 149 tackles for loss and 239 quarterback hits. He’s posted at least 14 sacks in five consecutive seasons.

Garrett would turn the Seahawks from a strong collection of pass rushers to the best in the league on paper.

Will the Cleveland Browns Entertain Garrett Trade Offers?

NFL Network’s Garafolo reported Friday the Browns have been clear that they aren’t dealing Garrett this offseason. Just last year, they signed him to a 4-year, $160 million extension.

But reading the tea leaves, Cleveland might be preparing to part with the 2-time Defensive MVP.

The Browns changed the language in Garrett’s contract this month. Cleveland has also proposed a rule change to draft pick years teams can offer in a trade.

Both moves could be facilitating a Garrett deal to another team.

“Garrett was set to receive an option bonus on the 15th day of the league year (March 25), but both sides agreed to push that date to seven days before the first regular-season game,” wrote CBS Sports’s John Breech. “The move means the Browns won’t have to pay that money until September — and wouldn’t have to pay it at all if Garrett isn’t on the roster. (Garrett also has option bonuses in 2027 and 2028 that have been pushed to seven days before the start of those seasons.)”

Breech added: “The Browns have also proposed a rule that would make trades easier. Currently, NFL teams can trade draft picks only three years into the future. Cleveland’s proposal would extend that to five years.”

With those two moves in mind, pundits are likely going to speculate Garrett as a trade candidate all summer. That is, unless a team, such as the Seahawks, acquires him first.

Dave Holcomb is a sports reporter covering the NFL and MLB for Heavy.com, with a focus on the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions.
