With NFL free agency at a near standstill, we will be evaluating the current state of each\u00a0Indianapolis Colts’<\/a>\u00a0position group, specifically, where things stand and whether or not more moves need to be made.<\/p>\n

GM Chris Ballard has now made nine outside free agent signings over the last week-plus, along with re-signing a number of the\u00a0Colts<\/a>‘ own free agents.<\/p>\n

However, there is still work to be done, as the\u00a0Colts\u00a0still have\u00a0several roster holes<\/a>\u00a0to address. The good news is that the\u00a0Colts\u00a0have a good amount of\u00a0salary cap space<\/a>\u00a0to work with.<\/p>\n

In the draft, the\u00a0Colts\u00a0are without a first-round pick and have a modest seven selections in total.<\/p>\n

With Nick Cross now with Washington, the starting role next to Cam Byunum is now up for grabs. The additions of Owens and Thomas provide needed competition and depth, but unknowns still very much linger at this position.<\/p>\n

Owens has primarily been a special teams contributor during his NFL career. Thomas has some upside and potential for the Colts to tap into, but he has played fewer than 600 career defensive snaps.<\/p>\n

The coaching staff is bullish on Wohler, but he’s a former late Day 3 pick who missed his entire rookie season with an injury.<\/p>\n

So, despite the signings made by Ballard in free agency, that shouldn’t stop him from further adding to this position. The Colts need as many options as possible.<\/p>\n
