The 2026 season is projected to be a tough one for the New York Jets<\/a> as Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey are tasked with keeping the rebuild on track.<\/p>\n

With the Jets making several key veteran moves in free agency to bring some leadership, but also depth to the roster, some think the franchise is poised to make a little climb up the AFC pecking order.<\/p>\n

But don’t forget, player acquisition is an all-year-round business in the NFL.<\/p>\n

And it is here where ESPN’s Jets reporter, Rich Cimini, has dropped an interesting nugget of information.<\/p>\n

The Jets could look to add a weapon for Geno Smith.<\/p>\n

“Don’t sleep on the possibility of Mougey trading for a veteran,” Cimini wrote<\/a>. “It’s already been an active offseason for wide receiver trades, and you’re talking about a GM who has made 12 player trades in a little over a year. Brian Thomas Jr. (Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a>), Rashod Bateman (Baltimore Ravens<\/a>), Quentin Johnston (Los Angeles Chargers<\/a>) and Dontayvion Wicks (Green Bay Packers<\/a>) have been mentioned as trade possibilities.”<\/p>\n

Jets need weapons<\/p>\n

The Jets, at the time of writing, have only one true weapon for Geno, and that’s Garrett Wilson.<\/p>\n

Of course, Adonai Mitchell also had some good moments last year, but aside from that? There isn’t much else.<\/p>\n

So, a move for a veteran could be a nice fit for the Jets as they look to put as many quality players on the roster ahead of next year’s draft, where it is expected that they will draft a quarterback.<\/p>\n

But could the franchise really go after someone like Brian Thomas Jr., or Quentin Johnson?<\/p>\n

Cimini thinks so.<\/p>\n
