New Bears pass rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka<\/p>\n
If you weren\u2019t sure exactly how desperate the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> are getting at edge rusher, their latest move should let you know.<\/p>\n The Eagles seem to be scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point, and signed former 1st round pick Joe Tryon-Shoyinka<\/a> to a 1-year contract on Sunday.<\/p>\n Tryon-Shoyinka, a 2021 1st round pick (No. 32 overall) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/a>, is on his 4th team in 3 years and was an out-and-out bust with the Bucs.<\/p>\n \u201cEagles signed OLB Joe Tryon-Shoyinka to a 1-year deal, per (general manager) Howie Roseman,\u201d The Philadelphia Inquirer\u2019s Jeff McLane wrote<\/a> on his official X account.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cJTS on the move,\u201d Fox Sports NFL reporter Greg Auman<\/a> wrote on X. \u201cStill only 26 years old, had 22 tackles, no sacks with Bears and Browns last year.\u201d<\/p>\n Bucs Parted Ways Quickly With 1st Round Bust<\/p>\n Tryon-Shoyinka ended up with the\u00a0Cleveland Browns<\/a> in 2025 on a 1-year, $4.755 free agent contract after the Buccaneers saw little to justify signing him to a contract extension in 4 seasons, and especially not after 2023 3rd round pick YaYa Diaby<\/a> took Tryon-Shoyinka\u2019s starting spot as a rookie.<\/p>\n It\u2019s also how Tryon-Shoyinka ended up with the\u00a0Chicago Bears<\/a> just hours ahead of the NFL trade deadline on November 4, sent away along with a 2026 seventh round pick in exchange for a 2026 6th round pick.<\/p>\n \u201cNew\u00a0Bears\u00a0EDGE\u00a0Joe\u00a0Tryon\u2013Shoyinka\u00a0hasn\u2019t played much for the Browns this year, but he has a 73.5 PFF grade and has 29.2% pass-rush win rate,\u201d\u00a0NFL draft analyst Jacob Infante<\/a>\u00a0wrote on his official X account. \u201cIt\u2019s off a small sample size, but that win rate is the 4th-best in the NFL<\/a>. Not a splash but depth for a cheap cost.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBrowns are sending DE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka and a seventh-round pick to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a sixth-round pick, per sources,\u201d\u00a0ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter<\/a>\u00a0wrote on his official X account. \u201cChicago lost DE\u00a0Dayo Odeyingbo<\/a>\u00a0to a season-ending Achilles injury on Sunday, and now trade for a potential replacement two days later.\u201d<\/p>\n JTS Seemed to Lack Juice to Finish Plays<\/p>\n The Buccaneers declined the fifth-year option on Tryon-Shoyinka in May 2024 and let him play out the final season of his\u00a04-year, $11.1 million rookie contract<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cAs expected, Bucs will not be exercising the fifth-year option for 2021 first-round pick OLB Joe Tryon-Shoyinka,\u201d\u00a0Fox Sports NFL reporter Greg Auman<\/a>\u00a0posted on X. \u201cWould have been $13.2 million for 2025. He has totaled 13 sacks in three seasons.\u201d<\/p>\n Tryon-Shoyinka was bad in his final year with the Buccaneers with a career low 2.0 sacks, and he\u2019s been just as bad with the Browns.<\/p>\n \u201cJoe\u00a0Tryon-Shoyinka\u00a0in eight games with Browns: zero sacks, zero tackles for loss, one QB hit, nine tackles,\u201d\u00a0Auman wrote on November 4<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n One of the problems with Tryon-Shoyinka throughout his career has been his\u00a0lack of versatility<\/a>. If he wasn\u2019t rushing the passer, he wasn\u2019t much good to the defense.
