There are absolutely zero original ideas<\/a> in the NFL.<\/p>\n

Case in point? Consider the past eight teams<\/a> that have used top-10 draft picks to select a running back. Seven of them used their next pick on an offensive player to pair with their new ball carrier; five of those seven teams used second-round picks on offensive linemen to pave the way.<\/p>\n

Advertisement<\/p>\n

Six of the eight teams<\/a> used a third-round pick on a defensive lineman or edge defender, seeking to build through the trenches on both sides of the ball. Three of these teams used fourth-round picks to select a wide receiver. Four of the teams used mid-round picks on developmental quarterbacks.<\/p>\n

It’s an inside-out team-building philosophy. You concluded you’re picking in the top 10 because your team strayed too far from “tough, physical, hard-nosed, winning football,” and now you’re using the draft to fix that from the running back on down.<\/p>\n

It’s a template. Let’s use it.<\/p>\n

Tennessee Titans<\/a> seven-round mock draft: Following the NFL draft first-round running back templateRound 1, pick No. 4: Jeremiyah Love<\/a>, RB, Notre Dame<\/p>\n

He’s the catalyst. He’s the multi-purpose everything back. He and Cam Ward become the first 1-1 quarterback and top-10 running back picked in back-to-back years since . . . oh no . . . JaMarcus Russell and Darren McFadden by the Lane Kiffin-era Oakland Raiders.<\/p>\n

Round 2, pick No. 35: Emmanuel Pregnon, G, Oregon<\/p>\n

Exclude triple-option linemen from Army, and Pregnon graded out as the best guard and third-best offensive lineman overall in college football in 2025, per Pro Football Focus. He can’t play center and guard simultaneously, but he gives the Titans an all-world run blocker opposite Peter Skoronski. Pregnon played at Southern Cal before transferring to Oregon; with the Trojans<\/a>, he played in front of quarterback Caleb Williams, a frequent scrambler not unlike Ward.<\/p>\n

Round 3, pick No. 66: Romello Height, Edge, Texas Tech<\/p>\n

The Titans need a true speed rusher off the edge. Height \u2014 a lean and explosive 239-pound edge who ranked top-five among defensive ends at the 2026 NFL combine in the vertical jump and broad jump \u2014 fits the mold. He’s an older prospect after playing six years in college, but his 62 pressures and nine sacks in 2025 playing opposite first-rounder David Bailey show he’s got skills to get into the backfield quickly.<\/p>\n

Round 4, pick No. 101: Ja’Kobi Lane, WR, Southern Cal<\/p>\n

Here’s your red zone threat. The 6-foot-4 Lane can stretch the field with his 4.47 speed, but he’ll thrive by outreaching defenders. After a few years of favoring leaner, more precision-based route runners, the Titans can use him as the straight-ahead, go-get-the-ball guy. And, as a quirk of the transfer portal era, Lane, Pregnon and Height were all Trojans teammates at one point.<\/p>\n

Round 5, pick No. 142: Matt Gulbin, C, Michigan State<\/p>\n

Gulbin’s a three-year starter who has worked at center and both guard spots. Best-case scenario, he’s Ward’s eventual batterymate between Skoronski and Pregnon. If he takes a year to develop into the role, though, he’s swing depth.<\/p>\n

Round 5, pick No. 144: Taylen Green, QB, Arkansas<\/p>\n

Having a 6-6 offensive weapon who runs a 4.36 40-yard dash and can vertical-jump 43.5 inches is . . . good. Green doesn’t need to be the Titans’ backup QB with Mitchell Trubisky around. So the real goal here can be figuring out how to use him alongside Love and the rest of the skill players as a change-of-pace option.<\/p>\n

Round 6, pick No. 184: Tanner Koziol, TE, Houston<\/p>\n

Between Lane, Green and the 6-7 Koziol, the Titans are building one heckuva pickup basketball team. Koziol can come in and do a lot of the dirty work for starter Gunnar Helm. He’s no slouch as a receiver, though, with 168 catches the past two years combined.<\/p>\n

Round 6, pick No. 194: Andre Fuller, CB, Toledo<\/p>\n

Toledo has been a DB factory as of late. Fuller led the team with nine pass breakups last season and held opponents below 43% completions. He’s 6-2 and has five years of college experience to lean on.<\/p>\n

Round 7, pick No. 225: DeVonta Smith, CB, Notre Dame<\/p>\n

No, not that one, though he did begin his college career at Alabama. Smith’s a rotational depth option at nickel corner who should get some special teams looks.<\/p>\n
