The Green Bay Packers<\/a> made the move late last season to bring in cornerback Trevon Diggs following his release from the Dallas Cowboys.<\/p>\n At the time of the waiver claim, there was a lot of excitement about Diggs coming to the Packers. Green Bay had desperately needed cornerback help and were headed towards the playoffs. Unfortunately, Diggs wasn\u2019t given a chance to prove what he could do.<\/p>\n While he played a bit during the team\u2019s season finale against the Minnesota Vikings<\/a> and recorded two tackles, he was not given a chance to make an impact in the playoffs.<\/p>\n Heading into the 2026 NFL<\/a> offseason, the Packers made the decision to release Diggs. They weren\u2019t expected to keep him on the deal he had. However, there have been questions about whether or not Green Bay could consider bringing him back.<\/p>\n A new update on his situation has been provided by Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst.<\/p>\n Packers Provide New Update About Trevon Diggs\u2019 Future<\/p>\n Diggs, who is a close friend of Green Bay superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons, remains a free agent. There is still a chance that he could return for the 2026 season.<\/p>\n Gutekunst spoke out with his thoughts on the matter. He certainly hasn\u2019t closed the door on the Packers re-signing him.<\/p>\n \u201cI wouldn\u2019t shut the door on anything,\u201d Gutekunst said<\/a>. \u201cAs we work through this draft and get to the other side of the draft, we\u2019re going to continue to look at ways to improve the football team.\u201d<\/p>\n That isn\u2019t necessarily a sign that Green Bay is planning to re-sign Diggs. It\u2019s simply a statement that shows he remains and option if the Packers still feel the need to add to the cornerback room after the 2026 NFL Draft has come and gone.<\/p>\n It will be interesting to see what the future has in store between the two parties.<\/p>\n Green Bay Does Have a Need at the Cornerback Position<\/p>\n Last season, the cornerback room was one of the biggest question marks surrounding Green Bay\u2019s roster. Heading into the offseason, it was clear the Packers needed help.<\/p>\n Nate Hobbs, one of the team\u2019s biggest free agency moves last offseason, was released earlier this offseason. To replace him, the team signed Benjamin St-Juste.<\/p>\n Even with those two moves, Green Bay badly needs help. Right now, the depth chart features Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, and Javon Bullard as the top three corners. That simply won\u2019t get the job done.<\/p>\n Bringing back Diggs on a one-year deal would make a lot of sense. Even if the Packers draft a cornerback, having a veteran presence in the secondary with previous star-caliber playmaking skills would be a smart move.
