After the season ended, Lions head coach Dan Campbell said the team knew that the line would look very different in 2026 than it had that season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI need time to really sit down and think about all this. But what we do know is one way or another probably, change is inevitable. Now, it may not be much but there will be something that\u2019ll change,\u201d Campbell said, via <a href=\"https:\/\/lionswire.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nfl\/lions\/2026\/01\/03\/lions-offensive-line-change-inevitable\/88003736007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">USA Today\u2019s Lions Wire<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The report noted that the Lions had both guards returning with <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/christian-mahogany\/\" title=\"Christian Mahogany\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"210085\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Christian Mahogany<\/a> on the left and Tate Ratledge on the right, but they were expected to bring in more competition for the interior positions on the line.<\/p>\n<p>The Lions may have some self-inflicted errors as well. Tackle <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/taylor-decker\/\" title=\"Taylor Decker\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"210084\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Taylor Decker<\/a> opted against retirement and told the team he intended to come back, but said he didn\u2019t get an answer from general manager Brad Holmes. Decker ultimately asked for his release after the team told his agent that they wanted him to take a pay cut.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cI think a lot of those situations that happen, it all starts with communication and what you communicate with the player, what you communicate with the player\u2019s agent, and so it starts there,\u201d Holmes said, <a href=\"https:\/\/lionswire.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nfl\/lions\/2026\/03\/29\/detroit-lions-taylor-decker-brad-holmes-divorce\/89369756007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">via USA Today\u2019s Lions Wire<\/a>. \u201cThere was really no surprises. Again, you don\u2019t know when a player is going to put something out.
