New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is continuing to shoulder the blame for the disastrous 2025 season.<\/p>\n
When asked if he regretted signing quarterback Justin Fields last offseason, Glenn defended the signal-caller and took responsibility for his struggles during the 2025 campaign.<\/p>\n
“That was a situation that just didn’t work out. I can’t sit here and say, ‘Listen, I regret,’ because I think Justin’s a really good player,” Glenn said. “I put the fault on me, I didn’t do enough to put him in position to be successful. And I’m always gonna say that, that’s my job as the head coach.”<\/p>\n
Fields started nine games for the Jets and had a 2-7 record amid the team’s 3-14 campaign. He was benched in Week 12 before being placed on injured reserve toward the end of the year, and New York traded him to the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this month.<\/p>\n
Glenn went on to add that he feels Fields has what it takes to turn things around with the Chiefs, as he will serve as the primary backup to star quarterback Patrick Mahomes while learning under one of the greatest head coaches in the league.<\/p>\n
“I think he’s gonna do well in Kansas City, I really do, because he’s a good person, for one, and he’s a good player,” Glenn said. “I think Andy Reid’s gonna do a good job with him.”<\/p>\n
Glenn also said his lone year with Fields taught him important lessons about how to put his players in a position for success. The Jets traded for veteran quarterback Geno Smith, so Glenn will have to bring the best out of his new-look roster as New York tries to end its rebuild.<\/p>\n
