In case any further proof was necessary that NFL<\/a> players are simply built different, Indianapolis Colts<\/a> owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon provided it.<\/p>\n

Irsay-Gordon joined The Pat McAfee Show from the NFL’s annual league meeting in Phoenix on Monday. She shared her feelings about re-signing quarterback Daniel Jones and wide receiver Alec Pierce earlier this month, which led to sharing an eye-popping detail about Jones’ injuries in 2025.<\/p>\n

“I mean, first, I was very excited to get both of them back, and I think they both wanted to come back together,” Irsay-Gordon told McAfee<\/a>. “I think it’s important, as I’ve said, talking to a lot of the guys. How did they feel? What did we need to keep moving forward? And most of them overwhelmingly agreed Daniel was the right person.”<\/p>\n

She continued, “Obviously, what he went through with his Achilles.”<\/p>\n

McAfee interjected, “And a broken leg.”<\/p>\n

Irsay-Gordan said, “And he played with that! For multiple games. I just remember them saying \u2014 I was like, ‘How can you play with a broken leg?’ It’s like, ‘Well, your fibula only supports 15% of your weight.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, OK.'”<\/p>\n

Jones, 28, landed on the Colts’ injury report with a vague fibula issue ahead of their Week 12 game in Kansas City. Jones played through it and threw for two touchdowns in Indy’s 23-20 overtime loss to the Chiefs.<\/p>\n

The following week, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport<\/a> reported that Jones had a fractured fibula in his left leg, but Jones was “not concerned” about it. <\/p>\n

Jones started the Colts’ 20-16 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 13 and started against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14, but he didn’t make it through the first quarter in Jacksonville before tearing his right Achilles tendon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Jones signed<\/a> a one-year contract with the Colts last March. Indianapolis started the 2025 season as the league’s biggest surprise, racing out to a 7-1 record before the wheels started to wobble. Indianapolis went 1-8 the rest of the way, including 0-5 without Jones. <\/p>\n

Earlier this month, the Colts re-signed<\/a> Jones to a two-year contract and inked<\/a> Pierce to a reported four-year, $114 million extension. <\/p>\n

Pierce led the Colts last season with 1,003 yards, plus six touchdowns, on just 47 catches. His 21.3 yards per reception led the NFL. Jones posted 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions on 68% completion before his injury.<\/p>\n

According to The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue<\/a>, Irsay-Gordon had written “The things which hurt, instruct” on a whiteboard at the Colts’ facility days before Jones tore his Achilles.
