{"id":845905,"date":"2026-03-31T23:34:24","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T23:34:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/845905\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T23:34:24","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T23:34:24","slug":"colts-gm-chris-ballad-shares-update-on-anthony-richardson-trade-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/845905\/","title":{"rendered":"Colts GM Chris Ballad Shares Update on Anthony Richardson Trade Talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<img width=\"780\" height=\"439\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/GettyImages-2239386984_59b68a-e1774998157528.jpg\" class=\"attachment-featured-image size-featured-image wp-post-image\" alt=\"Anthony Richardson Indianapolis Colts Chris Ballard\"   decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGetty\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Anthony Richardson #5 of the Indianapolis Colts <\/p>\n<p>Halfway through the 2025 <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/\" title=\"NFL\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"210777\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NFL<\/a> season, the <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/indianapolis-colts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Indianapolis Colts<\/a> looked like one of the best teams in the league, with many believing they might go the distance, with stars <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/daniel-jones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Daniel Jones<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/jonathan-taylor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Jonathan Taylor<\/a> leading the way.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, following a season-ending Achilles injury to Jones, the Colts\u2019 season spiraled out of control, resulting in the team losing its final seven games of the 2025 campaign and ending any hope of making the NFL playoffs.<\/p>\n<p>Colts GM Shares Update on Possibly Anthony Richardson Trade<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5872041\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5872041\" data-lazy-load=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/GettyImages-2235424668-e1774998337602.jpg\" alt=\"Anthony Richardson Indianapolis Colts\" width=\"780\" height=\"438\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5872041\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GettyAnthony Richardson Sr. #5 of the Indianapolis Colts<\/p>\n<p>Even though Jones went down with an Achilles injury that will take some time to bounce back from, the Colts have committed to the veteran quarterback on a two-year, $88 million contract.<\/p>\n<p>With the Colts clearly invested in Jones moving forward, backup quarterback Anthony Richardson wants to be traded to get another opportunity to be a starter elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Colts general manager Chris Ballard gave an update on the status of a trade involving Richardson, which has yet to come to fruition, via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/chris-ballard-on-anthony-richardson-weve-had-discussions-with-teams-well-see-how-that-works-out\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener external\">Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll see how it works out here over time,\u201d Ballard said. \u201cWe\u2019ve had some discussions with teams. Nothing\u2019s come to fruition at this point. I\u2019m proud of his development, his growth. He\u2019s had some bad freaking luck. We\u2019ve seen it in this league, sometimes thing don\u2019t work out one place and they become good at the next. We\u2019ll see here over the next month how that ends up working out with Anthony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clearly, the Colts brass are in no rush to move Richardson and appear to have struggled to find the right deal.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019ll be interesting to see if things change in the coming months or perhaps ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft, which gets underway on April 23.<\/p>\n<p>Could the Colts Trade for Myles Garrett?<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5872079\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5872079\" data-lazy-load=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/GettyImages-1750771239-e1774999343984.jpg\" alt=\"Myles Garrett Cleveland Browns Indianapolis Colts\" width=\"780\" height=\"439\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5872079\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GettyMyles Garrett #95 of the Cleveland Browns<\/p>\n<p>Along with potentially trading Richardson at some point between now and the start of the 2026 NFL Draft, the team could explore other game-changing options on the trade market, such as trying to land <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/cleveland-browns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Cleveland Browns<\/a> superstar defensive end <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/myles-garrett\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Myles Garrett<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Even though it may be a stretch, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/myles-garrett-contract-trade-destinations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener external\">Sports Illustrated\u2019s Conor Orr<\/a> makes a case for the Colts to land Garrett.<\/p>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Articles \/ Paragraph Links\">\u201cLet\u2019s imagine for a second that the Browns\u2019 rule proposal of extending tradable draft picks out to five years is tied to their desire to deal Garrett. Which teams would that most reasonably impact in terms of potential suitors for him? The Colts do not have first-round picks in this year\u2019s draft or next year\u2019s, thanks to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/sauce-gardner\/\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/sauce-gardner\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sauce Gardner<\/a>\u00a0move, and are clearly enamored with the current roster\u2014enough so that signing\u00a0Daniel Jones\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/alec-pierce\/\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/alec-pierce\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alec Pierce<\/a>\u00a0to big deals made sense to them,\u201d Orr wrote.<\/p>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Articles \/ Paragraph Links\">\u201cIf you\u2019re Carlie Irsay-Gordon, what is\u00a0another\u00a0two years of draft capital at this point if the return is a player who could actually turn the Colts into a contender?\u2026 The Colts were\u00a030th in pass rush win rate\u00a0last season and were heavily dependent on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/laiatu-latu\/\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/laiatu-latu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Laiatu Latu<\/a>\u00a0for generating quarterback pressures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Articles \/ Paragraph Links\">If the Colts could somehow convince the Browns to move the face of their franchise, it would transform the defense while potentially being the missing piece to the championship puzzle in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/author\/ryanwardla\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Ward<\/a> is a longtime credentialed writer covering the NBA and NFL.
