Bledsoe said he is “a big Bo Nix fan,” then went a step further by praising the kind of quarterback environment Sean Payton creates.

That timing matters for Denver. The Broncos’ biggest offseason storyline right now is still Nix’s recovery, and the latest update out of the NFL’s annual meeting was encouraging. Greg Penner said there are “no concerns” about Nix moving forward, while George Paton said the quarterback is “ahead of schedule” and should be ready for OTAs.

So on the surface, this is a former Pro Bowl quarterback complimenting Denver’s young starter. But in the bigger Broncos picture, it lands as one more sign that confidence around Nix remains high inside and outside the building.

Drew Bledsoe’s Sean Payton point is what stands out

The easy takeaway from the clip is that Bledsoe likes Nix.

The more interesting takeaway is what he said about Payton.

Bledsoe explained that as a quarterback, a great play-caller can be your best friend. He said Payton was his favorite play-caller, praised the way one play built off the next, and described how valuable it is when a quarterback always feels set up for success.

That is not small praise coming from a four-time Pro Bowler.

And for the Broncos, it gets to the center of the Nix bet. Denver never just drafted a talented quarterback. The organization also believed Payton’s structure, sequencing and experience could speed up Nix’s transition and development. Bledsoe’s comments support that exact idea.

It is one thing for Broncos coaches and executives to talk up the system. It is another when a veteran quarterback who worked with Payton says the same thing from experience.

Why this hits differently with Bo Nix’s rehab in focus

If Nix were still facing major uncertainty this spring, Bledsoe’s comments would feel more like offseason filler.

Instead, they arrive while Denver is sending a very different message.

Penner said Nix has attacked his rehab the same way he attacks preparation, and said the Broncos expect him to be ready for the voluntary offseason program. Paton’s update to 9News was even more specific, saying Nix is running, jumping and on track to be a full go for OTAs.

Now the takeaway is not simply that Bledsoe likes Nix. It is that outside respect for Nix is building at the same time Denver feels good about the quarterback being able to get back on the field and continue his progress this spring. For a young quarterback, that matters because lost offseason time can slow chemistry, timing and installation work. A healthy return keeps those development reps on schedule.

That is especially important after Denver’s aggressive offseason additions around him. Penner said the Jaylen Waddle trade fit the Broncos’ “opportunistically aggressive” approach, which tells you exactly how the team views this moment: not as a reset year, but as a push to build around its quarterback now.

The real Broncos angle is the growing confidence around Nix

Broncos fans do not just want compliments about Nix. They want signs that the franchise quarterback is on track physically, that the coaching structure around him is working, and that Denver’s offensive momentum can continue into Year 3.

Bledsoe’s comments feed all three.

He praised Nix’s early progress. He praised the coaching setup under Payton. And those remarks landed just as the Broncos’ latest public updates suggested Nix is right where the team wants him in recovery.

Erik Anderson is an award-winning sports journalist covering the NBA, MLB and NFL for Heavy.com.
