Mayfield is entering the final year of the three‑year, $100 million extension he signed after reviving his career in Tampa Bay in 2023. General manager Jason Licht said he has already spoken with Mayfield’s representatives and expects an extension to get done at some point.

Bucs coverage on Sports Talk Florida

Licht emphasized Mayfield’s leadership and toughness, calling him the heartbeat of the team. While there is no set timetable for a new deal, the organization appears committed to keeping him as the franchise cornerstone.

A Career Rebuilt in Tampa Bay

Mayfield’s resurgence has been one of the league’s strongest comeback stories. After being discarded by three teams, the former No. 1 overall pick led the Buccaneers to a division title and a playoff win in 2023. He followed that with a career‑best 2024 season, throwing for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns while completing over 71 percent of his passes.

He opened last season as an early MVP candidate before injuries across the roster derailed Tampa Bay’s push for a fifth straight NFC South crown. Even while playing hurt, Mayfield still produced 3,693 yards and 26 touchdowns.

No Holdout Concerns for Tampa Bay

Despite entering a contract year, Licht said he has no concerns about Mayfield holding out or using the season to drive up his market value. He described Mayfield as a “true professional” who has never let the organization down.

The Buccaneers have undergone significant roster changes, including the departure of six‑time Pro Bowl receiver Mike Evans and longtime defensive leader Lavonte David. That turnover makes Mayfield’s presence even more essential as the team transitions into a new era.

YaYa Diaby Also in Line for an Extension

Mayfield isn’t the only player the Buccaneers hope to keep long term. Licht said the team also wants to extend outside linebacker YaYa Diaby, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He praised Diaby as an underappreciated young talent with significant upside.

What Comes Next

The Buccaneers appear committed to stability at the game’s most important position. With Mayfield entrenched as the leader of the locker room and the face of the franchise, Tampa Bay is preparing to build its next chapter around him. Extension talks may not be urgent, but the message from the front office is unmistakable: Baker Mayfield is their quarterback, and they expect him to stay.

buccaneers – baker mayfield The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are signaling strong confidence that Baker Mayfield will remain their…

[2077
1842,211,116025,6513,7,7778,1591,6,24575,704,250,39103,2597,2596
0":"post-846540","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-tampa-bay-buccaneers","8":"tag-baker-mayfield","9":"tag-buccaneers","10":"tag-bucs-football","11":"tag-contract-extension","12":"tag-football","13":"tag-jason-licht","14":"tag-nfc-south","15":"tag-nfl","16":"tag-nfl-quarterbacks","17":"tag-tampa-bay","18":"tag-tampa-bay-buccaneers","19":"tag-tampa-bay-sports","20":"tag-tampabay","21":"tag-tampabaybuccaneers
["GET
