Former Minnesota Vikings<\/a> star quarterback Kirk Cousins<\/a> remains a free agent. After being released by the Atlanta Falcons<\/a>, Cousins has been connected to quite a few different teams but has yet to sign.<\/p>\n Cousins is arguably the best veteran quarterback available on the market. There are still a handful of teams around the NFL<\/a> who could use top-notch backup signal callers.<\/p>\n A couple of the teams linked as potential suitors for Cousins are the Green Bay Packers<\/a> and Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a>. He has also been suggested as a potential backup option for the Las Vegas Raiders<\/a>, who are expected to draft Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick.<\/p>\n With that being said, there is another sleeper team that could emerge as a Cousins destination.<\/p>\n Former Vikings QB Kirk Cousins Could Land With Sleeper Suitor<\/p>\n One team who hasn\u2019t been talked about much as a quarterback destination is the Indianapolis Colts<\/a>.<\/p>\n Daniel Jones<\/a> was re-signed to a massive two-year, $88 million contract earlier this offseason. The Colts are clearly hoping that he can be the long-term quarterback of the future.<\/p>\n While that is the plan for Indianapolis, there is a need for a true backup.<\/p>\n Last season, Jones went down with a torn Achilles. The Colts didn\u2019t have a good backup option and ended up turning to retired signal caller Philip Rivers<\/a>. With Jones recovering from the Achilles injury, Cousins could be brought in for peace of mind.<\/p>\n If something were to happen to Jones, Cousins would be able to step in and keep the team afloat. He\u2019s exactly the piece that Indianapolis was missing last season.<\/p>\n Kirk Cousins Still Has Good Football Left in the Tank<\/p>\n Cousins played in 10 games for the Falcons last year after Michael Penix<\/a> Jr. went down with injury. He completed 61.7 percent of his pass attempts for 1,721 yards, 10 touchdowns, and five interceptions.<\/p>\n With those numbers, Cousins proved that he can still play at a high level. He is no longer the star that he once was with the Vikings, but he\u2019s a quality veteran quarterback.<\/p>\n Landing with the Colts may not give Cousins a chance to be the starter. They seem to be all-in on Jones. However, if something happens to Jones, he would be on a team who could be a Super Bowl contender.<\/p>\n It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for Cousins. A decision could be coming in the near future with the 2026 NFL Draft right around the corner. Or, he could choose to remain a free agent and wait to see how quarterback situations shake out in the draft.<\/p>\n Expect to continue hearing speculation and rumors about where Cousins could play the 2026 season.
