The NFL\u2019s Annual Meeting in Phoenix is a good reminder of one thing: we\u2019re not far into the Ed Policy era, but he\u2019s already had a lot to navigate.<\/p>\n
Since Policy took over, the Packers made a major trade and made significant decisions about the future of their front office and their coaching staff, all while enjoying, financially at least, another successful season.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s a pretty full plate, and Policy hasn\u2019t even been on the job for a full year yet. It makes sense that he would have a lot to talk about this week, especially with the Packers hurtling through what appears to be a championship window.<\/p>\n
The most interesting thing about Policy, I think, is that he\u2019s basically been preparing for this job for his entire life. You can find interviews as far back as the mid 90s where he talks about his desire to be president of a major sports team some day. We don\u2019t yet know much about his leadership style or what Policy means for the future of the Packers, but I think we\u2019re obligated to pay close attention to the way he handles things like this annual meeting, what comments he makes, and how he makes them. At the very least, we\u2019ll be learning a bit about Policy, but we\u2019re also getting insights into how he may differ from Mark Murphy, what it means that he\u2019s got the big job, and how it could affect the Packers long term.<\/p>\n
We\u2019re in learning mode, in short, and everything we learn is a pretty significant data point this early into Policy\u2019s tenure.<\/p>\n
Policy had a lot to say at the NFL\u2019s Annual Meeting.<\/p>\n
Policy seemed a bit befuddled at the idea that anyone would want to fire Matt LaFleur.<\/p>\n
Policy\u2019s comments about naming rights for Lambeau Field are a part of this healthy paranoia.<\/p>\n
