NFL insider Adam Schefter has been keeping a close eye<\/a> on the offseason waiting game that Aaron Rodgers is playing with the Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a> as the four-time NFL MVP weighs whether he wants to come back for another season.<\/p>\n

Based on updates this week<\/a> from Schefter and Mike McCarthy, a reunion seems more likely than not.<\/p>\n

“I’m never tired of the Aaron Rodgers question. It’s always out there, and the situation is that he and Mike McCarthy have been talking on a regular basis,” Schefter said Tuesday on “NFL Live.”<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

“That would lead people to think, if they’re talking that often, why are they even talking if Aaron Rodgers is not serious about coming back?” Schefter continued. “That would tell you that obviously he’s strongly entertaining the idea of coming back to the Pittsburgh Steelers.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, McCarthy and the Steelers are hopeful that the former Super Bowl MVP will be back, according to Schefter.<\/p>\n

“I think everyone right now within the Steelers organization is cautiously optimistic that he’ll be back,” Schefter added. “We never fully know with Aaron Rodgers, but that much activity and conversations and talking about what the future could look like clearly is an indication that he’s serious about playing.”<\/p>\n

In other words, it will be surprising if Rodgers doesn’t come back at this point. There have been rumors about Rodgers wanting a significant pay raise from last year, but Schefter doesn’t believe contract specifics are holding things up<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“My understanding also is that it has nothing to do with a contract. That should not be difficult to work out,” Schefter added. “This is Aaron Rodgers waiting to announce whether he will or won’t play. And again, I think it’s a positive that he’s been as in touch with Mike McCarthy as he’s been recently.”<\/p>\n

Schefter provided a similar update<\/a> on Tuesday’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” so that’s a good sign as well.<\/p>\n
