{"id":847565,"date":"2026-04-01T17:25:14","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T17:25:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/847565\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T17:25:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T17:25:14","slug":"steelers-president-says-nfl-needs-to-review-rooney-rule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/847565\/","title":{"rendered":"Steelers President says NFL needs to review Rooney Rule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The Rooney Rule became a big topic of conversation over the last week after Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier threatened civil litigation against Goodell and the league if the rule wasn\u2019t abolished.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cNFL fans in Florida don\u2019t care what color their coach\u2019s skin is,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/48322280\/florida-attorney-general-says-nfl-get-rid-rooney-rule\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Uthmeier wrote via Kalyn Kahler<\/a>. \u201cThey care what colors their coach is wearing &#8212; and that those colors are winning on the football field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Speaking at the NFL Owners Meetings, Goodell responded by saying the Rooney Rule is consistent and falls within the law.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cOne thing that doesn\u2019t change is our values, and we believe that diversity has been a benefit to the National Football League,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/48362846\/goodell-backs-rooney-rule-says-diversity-benefit-nfl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Goodell said via Ben Baby<\/a>. \u201cWe are well aware of the laws and where the laws are changing or evolving.
