With concerns mounting regarding his job security and ability to lead the New York Jets<\/a>, second-year head coach Aaron Glenn is trying a new way to win over fans: authenticity.<\/p>\n

Speaking with reporters during the league meetings<\/a>, Glenn became emotional when discussing his goal of leading the Jets to their first playoff berth since 2010. Upon being hired last year, Glenn mentioned \u201cunfinished business,\u201d which began when he played for the Jets from 1994 to 2001.<\/p>\n

Glenn reiterated those feelings<\/a> on Wednesday, remarking that he wants to \u201cleave a legacy\u201d and turn one of the league\u2019s most dysfunctional organizations into a perennial contender.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I\u2019m gone, I\u2019m looking at this team being a team that consistently puts themselves in a place to win,\u201d Glenn said<\/a>. \u201cEvery day. It\u2019s not a day, it\u2019s not an hour it\u2019s not a minute that I don\u2019t think about that. And I look forward to trying to make that happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Glenn\u2019s candidness is refreshing, even if Jets don\u2019t pan out<\/p>\n

For full transparency, I\u2019m among those skeptical that Glenn will break the Jets\u2019 lengthy playoff drought, and not because of the team\u2019s forever-uncertain quarterback situation. Glenn repeatedly clashed with reporters<\/a> last year in cringeworthy press conferences, and his sideline dancing during an eventual loss to the Buccaneers certainly rubbed fans and media the wrong way.<\/p>\n

Yet, I couldn\u2019t help but nod my head in approval when I saw the X\/Twitter posts about Glenn getting choked up. Too often, as we saw with Robert Saleh, coaches opt for anger and frustration during a losing streak or a lost season. At times, it can even feel like those negative emotions are expressed out of obligation rather than out of a genuine place.<\/p>\n

Glenn, to his credit, hasn\u2019t been afraid to wear his emotions on his shoulder, even admitting in January that he felt he let the players down and the organization down after the Jets\u2019 3-14 finish. Expectations may not have been high<\/a> entering the 2025 season, but few expected the Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams trades, or the Jets failing to record an interception.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are the things that I have to do to make sure that, man, we get over that hump?\u201d Glenn said on Tuesday. \u201cBecause I\u2019ve been a part of it and there\u2019s no better feeling in the world then we\u2019re downtrodden for a number of years and then we finally get over that hump, and now we\u2019re moving. How do we keep that sustainable for years to come?\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans don\u2019t want to hear the usual \u201cwe\u2019re frustrated\u201d or \u201cwe\u2019re a better team than this\u201d shtick, and that applies tenfold when discussing a team that last reached the postseason before your iPhone had Siri. At least Glenn is trying something different, and he might manage to restore some of the faith that the fanbase has lost in him over the last year.<\/p>\n

As for restoring the faith that the Jets will resemble a competent team on the field?
