Full go by

This update refuted a report from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio that the Broncos were interested in pursuing Rodgers.

“There’s talk of the Broncos possibly bringing Rodgers in for a visit. The motivation comes from the possibility that current starter Bo Nix won’t be fully and completely back to 100 percent when Week 1 rolls around,” wrote Florio.

Whether or not the Broncos target Rodgers is quite impactful on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh doesn’t have a starting quarterback on its roster. The Steelers also appear to be waiting for Rodgers to decide whether he wants to play in 2026.

Why Broncos Pursuit of Aaron Rodgers Would Be Bad News for Steelers

GettyPro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported the Denver Broncos are interested in quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

With the dust mostly settled in the quarterback market, there’s only three teams with starter openings. Not counting the Steelers, the Las Vegas Raiders and Arizona Cardinals are the only two. Pundits, though, project the Raiders to draft Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza at No. 1 overall.

That leaves Rodgers very few options. Basically, pundits expect him to play for Pittsburgh or not at all in 2026.

Things change quickly for the Steelers and Rodgers, though, if the Broncos are involved. Denver posted a 14-3 record during the 2025 regular season and then defeated the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs.

Without their starting quarterback Bo Nix in the AFC championship, the Broncos held a lead over the New England Patriots.

If Rodgers is trying to win another ring, the Broncos have a strong argument to be a better opportunity than the Steelers next season.

Rodgers heading to Denver would leave Pittsburgh without a clear-cut starter. The Steelers currently have Mason Rudolph and Will Howard at quarterback on their roster. Rudolph has started 19 games in his career. Howard has never played in the regular season.

Howard actually has never set foot on an NFL field for any game whatsoever.

Broncos Not Interested in Rodgers: Report

Getty9NEWS’ Mike Klis reported that there’s a “zero percent” chance the Denver Broncos signing free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

But it doesn’t appear the Steelers have to be concerned about the Broncos pursuing Rodgers.

Despite Florio defiantly stating his report wasn’t an April Fool’s joke, Klis called it that.

While it’s not 100% clear Nix will be ready for Week 1 because of his January ankle injury, Rodgers doesn’t seem like the right fit for Denver.

Sean Payton and the Broncos are pretty attached to Nix. As Steelers fans know, Payton agreed to pay Russell Wilson about $38 million to play for another team (the Steelers in 2024) so he could get his hands on a rookie. That rookie in 2024 became Nix.

Nix doesn’t have the prettiest stat sheet. But after two playoff appearances, including his first postseason win against Josh Allen, the Broncos casting him aside for a 42-year-old doesn’t make a lot of sense.

If Nix isn’t ready to begin the season, Denver will likely start Jarrett Stidham again until Nix is healthy.

Dave Holcomb is a sports reporter covering the NFL and MLB for Heavy.com, with a focus on the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions.
