Half Hollow Hills’\u00a0 flag football program has had some great teams over the past few years, but this season\u00a0the depth has been a difference-maker.<\/p>\n
Three different receivers caught touchdowns for Hills in a 31-0 win over host Ward Melville in Suffolk I Wednesday afternoon.\u00a0Hills\u00a0defense pitched its fourth shutout in its first four games.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a lot of depth on this team,\u201d quarterback Samantha Heyman said. \u201cThis is the first year that we\u2019ve had all these returners. Everyone\u2019s working hard and wants to win for the person next to them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Heyman completed 19 of 25 passes for 195 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 57 yards and another score. Heyman found Zoe Franks on passes of 26 and 22 yards on Hills’\u00a0opening drive, setting up Heyman\u2019s 1-yard rushing touchdown and a\u00a06-0 lead with 6:46 left in the first quarter.<\/p>\n
Emma Gould had seven flag pulls and three sacks for Hills (4-0), which led 12-0 at halftime.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOn defense we have four shutouts, but we haven\u2019t peaked yet defensively,\u201d Coach Michael Lupa said. \u201cEmma Gould was great.\u00a0She’s one of the best rushers in this entire division.\u00a0She never quits and never stops hustling.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd this is the most depth we\u2019ve ever had. We have multiple receivers that can make big plays.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hills picked up the pace offensively in the third quarter. Heyman connected with Emma Wilck over the middle and Wilck\u00a0juked past defenders,\u00a0accelerating\u00a0for a 35-yard touchdown and a\u00a019-0 lead with 9:43 left in the quarter.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Heyman threw touchdown passes to\u00a0Gould and Franks\u00a0in the fourth quarter. Franks finished with eight catches for 83 yards and two touchdowns.<\/p>\n
Hills has outscored opponents\u00a0157-0 through four games.<\/p>\n
\u201cHills is a really good team,\u201d Ward Melville coach Rich Russo said. \u201cThey have some of the best players I\u2019ve seen. They did a good job. For us, we have a lot of young kids.
